Once again, science supports what your grandmother told you: A good night's sleep helps your body fight a cold.
People who averaged fewer than seven hours of sleep per   1  in the weeks before being exposed to the cold virus were nearly three times   2  likely to get sick as those who   3  eight hours or more, a new study found.
Researchers used frequent telephone   4  to track the sleep   5  of more than 150 men and women aged 21 to 55 over the course of a few weeks. Then they   6  the subjects to the virus, quarantined them for five days and kept   7  of who got sick.
8  sleeping more, sleeping better also seemed to   9  the body fight illness: Patients who fared better on a measure   10  as 'sleep efficiency' - the percentage of time in bed that you're actually sleeping - were also   11  likely to get sick.
The results held   12  even after researchers   13  for variables such as body-mass index, age, sex, smoking and pre-existing antibodies to the   14   .
15  your grandmother, the researchers aren't exactly sure   16  sleeping better makes you less likely to   17  a cold. But they   18   take a stab at the answer: 'Sleep disturbance influences the regulation of proinflammatory cytokines(促炎细胞因子), histamines, and other symptom mediators that are released in response to infection.' In plain English, maybe tossing and turning when you're   19  with the cold virus   20  to the symptoms that define a cold.
The researchers were based at Carnegie Mellon, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Virginia, and the study was funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Children model themselves largely on their parents. They do so mainly through identification.Children identify 36a parent when they believe they have the qualities and feelings that are 37 of that parent. The things parents do and say---and the 38 they do and say to them--therefore strongly influence a child's 39 .However, parents must consistently behave like the type of 40 they want their child to become.
A parent's actions 41 affect the self-image that a child forms 42 identification.Children who see mainly positive qualities in their 43 will likely learn to see themselves in a positive way.Children who observe chiefly 44 qualities in their parents will have difficulty 45 positive qualities in themselves.Children may 46 their self-image, however, as they become increasingly 47 by peers groups standards before they reach 13.
Isolated(孤立的) events, 48 dramatic(突然的) ones, do not necessarily have a permanent 49 on a child's behavior.Children interact such events according to their established attitudes and previous training.Children who know they are loved can, 50 , accept the divorce of their parents' or a parent's early 51 .But if children feel unloved, they may interpret such events 52a sign of rejection or punishment
In the same way, all children are not influenced 53 by toys and games, reading matter, and television programs. 54in the case of a dramatic change in family relations, the 55 of an activity or experience depends on how the child interprets it.

One windy spring day, I observed young people having fun using the wind to fly their kites. Multicolored 26 of varying shapes and sizes filled the bright skies like beautiful birds darting and 27 . As the strong wind blow against the kites, a 28 kept them in control.
Instead of 29 away with the wind they arose against it to achieve great 30 . They shook and pulled, 31 the control string and the long tail 32 them in tow(受支配), facing upward and against the wind. As the kites 33 and trembled against the string, they seemed to say, "Let me go! Let me go! I want to be 34 !" They soared beautifully even as they fought the restriction(约束) of the string. 35 , one of the kites succeeded in breaking loose. "Free at last" , it seemed to say "Free to fly with the wind".
Yet freedom from 36 simply put it at the 37 of an unsympathetic breeze. it dropped ungracefully(不雅地) to the ground and 38 in a wild mass of weeds and string against a dead bush. "Free at last" -- free to lie powerlessly in the dirt, to be blown 39 along the ground, and to lodge lifelessly against the first obstruction.
How much like kites we sometimes are. The Heaven gives us adversities and restrictions, rules to 40 from which we can grow and gain strength. Control is a 41 counterpart to the winds of opposition. Some of his tug at the rules so hard that we42 soar to reach the heights we might have obtained. We keep part of the commandment and never rise 43 enough to get our tails off the ground.
Let us each rise to the great heights, 44 that some of the controls that we may be unhappy under are actually the steadying force that helps us 45 and achieve.

I am just a single piece of a mirror whose ___50__ design and shape I do not know. __51___, with what I have I can reflect light into the dark places of this __52__, into the black places in the___53__ of men—and change some things __54___ some people. I’ve always had strong opinions of how love should be expressed, but others had their own ways of showing care.
What I 36 most about visiting my boyfriend’s parents is the loud tick of the clock in the dining room as we 37 ate our meal. With so little conversation I was quick to 38 his family as cold. When we got into the 39 to go home, his father suddenly appeared 40 , he began to wash his son’s windscreen. I could feel he is a caring man through the glass.
I learned another lesson about love a few years later. My father often 41 me early in the morning. “Buy Xerox. It’s a good sharp price,” he might say when I answered the phone. No pleasant 42 or inquiry about my life ,just financial instructions. This manner of his 43 me and we often quarreled. But one day, I thought about my father’s success in business and realized that his concern for my financial security lay behind his 44 morning calls. The next time he called and told me to buy a stock, I
45 him.
When my social style has conflicted with that of my friends, I’ve often felt 46 . For example, I always return phone calls 47 and regularly contact with my friends. I expect the same from them. I had one friend who rarely called, answering my messages with short e-mails. I rushed to the 48 : She wasn’t a good friend! My anger49 as the holidays approached. But then she came to a gathering I 50 and handed me a beautiful dress I had fallen in love with when we did some window-shopping the previous month. I was 51 at her thoughtfulness, and regretful for how I’d considered her to be 52 . Clearly I needed to change my expectations of friends.
Far too often, I ignored their 53 expressions, eagerly expecting them to do things in my 54 .Over the years, however, I’ve learned to55 other persons’ love signs.

Time is very important in our life. It 36 our everyday moments. However, time never had any importance in my life until I 37 a watch from my father, which organized my life and made me more 38 . It’s round(圆形的) in the center with two silver bands(带,条) that go 39 my wrist(手腕) and all of it is made of silver.
I received this 40 on a gray-sky day. I had to go to the airport at 9:00 a.m. to 41 up my uncle Ali and take him to my father’s house. 42 , I was late because I was 43 with my friends. Later on that day, around 11:00 a.m., I 44 my uncle, but I was very late for him. He had 45 the airport and taken a taxi to my father’s house.
I got to my father’s house at 2:00 p.m. that day and felt 46 of myself at that moment. After I said hello to my 47 father and tired uncle, my father asked me to sit next to him and handed me this watch as a gift from him. Then he said, “Peter, did you have 48 with your friends today?” I answered, “Yes, father, and 49
apologized for not meeting my uncle Ali.” He said, “What you 50 was not very nice and you should feel sorry for your51 .” I was ashamed and said, “Father, I’ll never do it again. I promise.” He said, “I hope today you learned something important, and this watch will be a 52 for you.” He told me to take this watch and use it as an organizer of my 53 .
I learned a very important lesson from my father: to 54 time and never to be late to get someone. This watch is 55 to me, not because of its price, but because of the lesson that I learned from it.
