Farmers, as we all know, have been having a hard time of it lately, and have turned to new ways of earning income from their land. This involves not only planting new kinds of crops, but some __1__ ways of making money, the most unusual of which has got to be sheep racing. Yes, you heard me __2__! A farmer now holds sheep races on a regular basis, and during the past year over 100 000 people have __3__ to watch the race. “I was passing the farm on my way to the sea for a holiday,” one punter (赛马经纪人) told me, “and I thought I’d have a look. I didn’t believe it was serious, to tell you the truth.” According to a regular visitor, betting on sheep is more interesting than betting on horses. “At proper horse races everyone has already studied the form of the horse __4__, and there are clear favourites. __5__ nobody has heard anything about these __6__! Most people find it difficult to tell one from another in any case.” I stayed to watch the races, and I must admit that I found it quite __7__. In a usual sheep race, half a dozen sheep race down hill over a course of about half a mile. Food is waiting for them at the other end of the __8__ just to give them some encouragement, I ought to add! The sheep run surprisingly fast. __9__ they have probably not eaten for a while. Anyway, the crowd around me were obviously enjoying their day out at the races, __10__ by their happy faces and the sense of excitement.

My mother used to ask me what is the most important part of the body. Through the years I would__36__ the correct answer. When I was young,I thought__37__ was very important to us as humans,so I said,“My ears,Mummy.” She said,“No. Many people are __38__.But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon.”
Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first __39__,I had often thought over the question. So this time I told her,“Mummy,it must be our eyes.” She looked at me and said,“You are __40__ fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind.”
__41__ the years,Mother asked me a couple more __42__ and always her response to my answer was,“No,but you are getting __43__ every year,my child.” Then last year,my grandpa __44__.Everyone was heartbroken. Everybody was crying. My mum looked at me when it was our __45__ to say our final goodbye to Grandpa. She asked me,“Do you know the most important body part yet,my dear?”
I was__46__ when she was asking me this now. I always thought this was a __47__ between her and me. She saw the __48__ on my face and told me,“This question is very important. It shows that you have really__49__ your life.” I saw her eyes well up with tears. She said,“My dear, the most important body part is your __50__.”I asked,“Is it because they hold up your head?” She replied,“No,it is __51__ on them a crying friend or a loved one can rest his or her head. I only hope that you have enough __52__ and friends and that you will have a shoulder to cry __53__ when you need it.” Then and there I understood the most important body part is not a __54__ one. It is sympathetic to the pain of __55__.

I can still remember the first day when I met my best friend. I hid behind my mother and she hid behind her grandmother, 36 to look at each other. But we soon lost the 37 and started playing with each other. In the 7th grade, I first lost touch with her. She was 38 family problems and I deserted her to be with the “cooler people.” 39 of my new friends liked her as much as I did 40 they knew she had “problems”. However, every summer we would 41 sit at each other’s home and watch soap operas and talk about everything we liked.
It was last year when I 42 the problem. I guess I was just too busy in high school to realize she needed someone there for her. Well, she made a new “best friend” and 43 did I. Then I didn’t know why, but she started cutting herself.
She was diagnosed with clinical depression(抑郁症). I was very 44 at first, but with the late night calls, we still stayed in 45. I wanted to be there for her since her new best friend 46 deserted her, when people were calling her 47 , but I knew I still 48 her like a sister.
Yesterday she came 49 me and said this,” I never knew what a best friend was 50 I found you were the only person that would stop me from cutting, the only person that ever made me feel better about myself and my 51. You don’t know this but I was trying to kill myself one night when you 52 me. I 53 you so much, and you didn’t even know you were 54 me.” We both cried. And I guess a kind of lesson from my life so far is to never 55 your friends.

I wandered in the park. The park bench was___21___ as I sat down to read beneath the long, straggly (蔓延的) branches of an old willow tree. I was disappointed by life with ___22___ reason to frown, for the world was intent on dragging me down.
___23___ that weren't enough to ruin my day, a young boy out of ___24___ approached me, all tired from play. He stood right before me and said with great excitement, "Look what I found!"
In his hand was a flower, and what a ___25___ sight, with its petals(花瓣) all worn --- not enough rain, or too little light. I faked a small ___26___, wanting him to take his dead flower and leave, and then ___27___.
But instead of leaving he sat next to my side and placed the flower to his nose and declared with surprise, "It surely smells pretty and it's beautiful, too. That's why I picked it; here, it's for you."
The weed before me was dying or dead. Not brilliant colors, orange, yellow or red. But I knew I must ___28___ it, or he might never leave. So I reached for the flower, and replied, "Just what Ineed."
But ___29___ him placing the flower in my hand, he held it mid-air without ___30___ or plan. It was then that I noticed for the very first time, that young boy could not see: he was blind.
My ___31___ trembled, and tears shone like the sun as I ___32___ him for picking the very best one. "You're welcome," he smiled, and then ran off to play, not ___33___ of the impact he'd had on my day.
I sat there and wondered how he ___34___ to see a self-pitying woman beneath an old willow tree. How did he ___35___ my difficult situation? ___36___ from his heart, he'd been blessed with true ___37___.
At last I could see, ___38___ the eyes of a blind child, the problem was not with the ___39___; the problem was me. And for all of those times I myself had been ___40___, I vowed(发誓) to see beauty, and appreciate every second that's mine.
I held that wilted(枯萎) flower up to my nose and breathed in the fragrance of a beautiful rose and smiled as that young boy.

Ever since I was little I loved doing things for other people. As I got older I began doing random (随意的 ) things for people. For example, during holidays, such as Christmas, I would make an extra 21 along with the ones for my relatives. Then I would go and find someone in the grocery store and just hand it to them and walk away. It was so much fun. I admit, 22 , the first time I did it I was so 23 . I didn’t know who to give the card to. So I said a little prayer and knew that the 24 person would just appear. About that time an elderly man ran 25 me with his shopping cart. It was an accident, and he 26a million times. We smiled and he walked away, and I knew that he was the one. Later I found him in a different isle(过道), handed him the card, and smiled. I said Happy Holidays, and then walked away. It was so great, and the 27 I had afterwards was unexplainable.
Then one day I came across yourwebsite (the coolestwebsite ever) and 28 some Smile Cards. When they came in, I started a new project. When I go into a store, I locate a person who I think needs a 29 . Then, I buy a flower, a carnation, to be exact, and 30 it in the most beautiful paper they have. I tie lots of ribbons on it to make it 31 , and then slip the smile card into an envelope and 32 it to the flower. After that, I pay for it and explain to the cashier 33 it is to go to (I live in a pretty small town so it’s easy to get the help of the cashiers). They then give it to that person when they come through.. Once in a while I’ll buy the flower and then just leave it for the cashier. That gets smiles.
My favorite time was when I picked out this elderly woman who was walking around the 34 somewhat confused. I had come across her numerous times and she only smiled slightly once. When she came to the check out (I was watching from outside) her face 35 and the smile was the biggest I had ever seen. Later that week the cashier whom I had had 36 me told me that the lady had been so surprised and while she was walking out with the grocery bag to her car, she was planning what she was going to do for someone else. It was awesome.
I absolutely love the random acts of kindness cards. I 37 at least two in my purse and others in my car, locker and everywhere I go. As I mentioned, my club, STARS, is doing a Random Acts of Kindness Project with the smile cards so they also are using them. I look forward to hearing about their success. It’s really great. I 38 used them in school. I bought my entire math class cans of pop after lunch one day. They came in from lunch and a can of pop and a smile card were setting 39 that day. It totally lightened the mood in the class that day 40 we were studying for a test. Thank you for all of the help that you provide. The smile cards are a great program that brings smiles into the lives of many!
