Child labor has been a problem for many years. Over a hundred years ago, Charles Dickens shocked many of his readers when    31  (describe)the conditions under which young children worked in British factories.    32    conditions Dickens described continue, almost unchanged today, in many parts of the world. The only difference is    33    today’s employment of children is confined to small industries and family businesses, such as hotels, restaurants and    34    (particular) farms, rather than to large factories. The children not only receive nothing or very    35   for their long hours of work, but also they    36    (prevent) from attending school. Therefore, when they become older they are    37   (able) to do any other kind of work.
The solution    38    the problem of child labour is clearly better laws to protect young children greater supervision (监督) of industry and heavier fines for    39    who break the laws. Only    40    this way can young boys and girls be allowed to enjoy the most valuable time of their lives --- childhood.

When you’re a preteen, a huge problem might be that you just have to have a new rock-rap CD, 1 your parents won’t give you the money for it. I thought life was so 2 when things like this happened-----until September 11, 2001.
I was in P.E. when the planes hit the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. As soon as I got home and for weeks before, I saw the disaster 3 on TV. Seeing the innocent people running for their 4 as the debris(瓦砾) started coming down the fire and smoke rose out of the 5 brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t help imagining what the people on the 6 and in the buildings were thinking and going through, not 7 what was going on. I admired the courage of the firefighters who rushed in and risked their own lives to 8 others. It tore my heart apart to watch the 9 looks on the faces of so many people who didn’t know if their loved ones were dead or alive while 10 in all the debris.
Then it 11 me: All my life I had thought mainly of myself. I had it easy in life and had been taking it all for granted.
A feeling of coldness 12 down my back, and I cried just thinking of the possibility that it could have easily 13 to my family. My mom or dad could have been killed like that, and I would never, ever see them again. I began to evaluate what a real 14 in life was.
This disaster 15 me that awful things can happen to anyone at any time. Now when my mom or dad or sister go somewhere, even if it’s just 16 the store, I try to remember to tell them that I love them because I know there is a 17 that I may never tell them that 18 .
Not getting a new CD is not going to 19 my life. I can live with those kinds of problems. But losing someone I love would 20 make my life miserable.
9/11 showed me just what I am.

My name is Scott and I am 36 years old. I have spent most of my adult life doing an 41 job, so I had a very cynical (愤世嫉俗的) view of life and the world around me. I saw no point in trying to 42 my life or the lives of the people around me.

When I asked another instructor 47 someone who was so overqualified worked at a small community college, she 48 told me because he wanted to.

I thought that I was the 58 one that was affected by his lessons, but at the end of the term I found that the entire class had felt the same 59 that came over me. Dr. Rock taught us how to60 our country, our community and ourselves.

My father was in the navy, which meant that my mother was married to both my father and the sea. As was often the case, we had to pack our belongings into boxes and 36 those we had grown to love. We would arrive at our new home and find ourselves once again 37 at the pier(码头)waving good-bye to my father as his 38 pulled him away from us. My mother would turn my brother and me around before the ship was out of 39 , wipe our tears, and take us back home to start the process of 40 in the new environment again.
Throughout the years of changing 41 , schools and friends, there remained one constant in my childhood — my mother. For both my 42 and me, she was the cook, maid and teacher. She played these roles while 43 some type of part-time job. Leaving a promising career is just one of the 44 which my mother made for my family as we moved around the world with our father every three years or so. 45 she had to deal with only a small budget, my mother 46 managed to make each house to be the very home that is safe and 47 .
This probably sounds like a depressing way to live, 48 with two small children: “single” parenthood, short-term friendships, and the inability to 49 a career or establish a home. But it was not for my mother. She turned this 50 into adventure for us all! Each relocation was a chance to 51 another part of the world. My mother greeted each new culture, climate and neighborhood. Each new house was a 52 to rearrange furniture, make curtains and 53 pictures. Every part-time job was an opportunity to learn something new and work with interesting people.
No matter how difficult the life was, she was always having a 54 attitude. She always had strength in the face of struggle and change. My mother was so 55 all those years of my childhood — she was my island in a sea of change. She is my hero.
