As I walked down streets under tall buildings, I felt very and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers. Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.
About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned , half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. I saw was a shining streetlight. , the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run fast. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.
I wasn’t cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to I’d heard the noise. I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.

The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an look in his eyes. “Is this what you’re looking for?” he asked, a small square shape.
It was nearly 3 a. m. by the time I got into bed. I get much sleep that night, but I had gotten my wallet back. I had gotten back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn’t be a bad place people were willing to help each other.

I want to make the most of every day. And, like most people, I've that the best way to do it is (to) let go of past failures. But that's not all. One can never fully today while thinking too much about past successes, either. People never while resting comfortably on their laurels (荣誉). The is that sometimes our successes hold us back more than our failures!
I once a story about the Oscar owner, actor Clark Gable. A friend Gable one afternoon at the actor's home. She brought along her son, who was playing happily with toy cars on the floor. He he was racing those cars around a great track, which in was an imaginary circle around a golden statue. The small statue the boy played with was actually the Oscar Clark Gable for his performance in the 1934 movie It Happened One Night.
When his mother told him the time had come to , the little boy asked the actor, “Can I have this?” to the Oscar.
“Sure,” he smiled. “It's yours.”
The horrified mother . “Put that back immediately!”
Giving the child the golden statue, Clark Gable said, “Having the Oscar around doesn't mean anything to me; it does.” The actor seemed to know that past success could be a hammock (吊床) upon which he may be tempted to , rather than a springboard setting him to begin a new start.
You may have learned to let go of past and mistakes in order to free the present. But will you forget past successes and achievements in order to free the ?Will your past be a springboard or a restful hammock?
“I like the of the future better than the history of the past,” said Thomas Jefferson. I . After all, the future, not the past, is where the rest of your life will be lived.

One day, Plumb and his wife were sitting in a restaurant when a man at another table came up and said, "You're Plumb! You jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier (航空母舰) Kitty Hawk . You were !"
"How in the world did you know that?" asked Plumb.
"I your parachute," the man replied. Plumb gasped(倒吸一口气) in surprise and .The man pumped his hand and said, "I guess it worked!"
Plumb assured him, "It did—if your chute hadn't worked, I wouldn't be here today."
Plumb couldn't sleep that night, thinking about that man. He says, "I wondered how many times I might have passed him the Kitty Hawk. I wondered how many times I might have seen him and not even said 'Good morning, how are you', or anything , you see, I was a fighter pilot and he was just a ."
Plumb thought of the many days the sailor had spent on a long wooden table in the bowels(深处)of the ship working on each chute, holding in his hands each time the of someone he didn't know.
Plumb asks his , "Who's packing your ? Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it the day." Plumb also says that he needed many kinds of parachutes when his plane was shot down—he needed his parachute, his mental parachute, his emotional parachute, and his spiritual parachute. He called on all these before reaching safety. His experience reminds us all to and be kind to people who pack our daily parachutes, and strengthen us to go through times.
