China news,Beijing,July.29—Housing price in China has always aroused heated discussions among property developers and ordinary Chinese. To many property developers and local government officials, housing price in China is still low compared with many developed countries. However, the average housing price in the United States is only 8,000 yuan per square meter, while in China,it is even higher than in the United States. This shows that there are some bubbles(泡沫)in Chinese real estate market, the International Finance News reported.
Although the average price of residential houses in the United States, after convened to Re Renminbi,is about 8,000 yuan per square meter, the houses in US are not sold in terms of building area,as most Chinese property developers do when they sell their houses. If US property developers sell their houses according to the building area, then the housing price will be even lower than 8,000 yuan per square meter. In most big Chinese cities, such as Beijing,Shanghai, and Shenzhen, houses are sold at a price even higher than those in the US.
The high housing sales price in large cities in China proves that Chinese real estate market does have some bubbles. Moreover,Chinese houses can not be compared with houses in US in terms of building quality, environment and supporting facilities.Furthermore,it should be noted that American people’s average income is several dozen times higher than that of Chinese people.
How Can the Chinese afford to buy a house which is even more expensive than that sold in US?
At the beginning of 2007,Chinese government issued a set of policies that aimed to benefit the public. Now in order to reduce the high housing prices.the government Call regulate the real estate market by raising tax on property industry and controlling the release of loans and lands to property developers. At the same time, the government should allow, people to build more houses through various fund-raising channels.such as funds collected from buyers or raised by working units.By applying these multiple means,it is expected that the high housing prices can be lowered.

Most city parks are places where you can escape from big, ugly structures of metal and stone. The Manhattan High Line is different. Raised 25 feet above the ground, this large metal structure once supported a rail line. The line opened in 1934 to bring trains directly into factories. It was hardly used after the 1960s, and much of it was torn down. However, one part remained in a region of Manhattan called Chelsea. Chelsea was becoming high-class as restaurants, art galleries and apartments were built, but the ugly railway structure remained as a dead weight. Everyone knew that at some time, it would have to be removed.
But the High Line was not destroyed. In fact, now the old rail line serves as one of the most peaceful places in the city. It holds an elevated(高架的) park, with beautiful gardens and great views of the city. The idea to turn the rail line into a park came from Joshua David and Robert Hammond. In 1999, they attended a meeting to decide how to deal with the High Line. David and Hammond were the only people at the meeting interested in saving the historical structure. Later on, when they asked railway officials to take them up to look at the High Line, they saw a mile and a half of wild flowers growing in the middle of the city, and they realized that the High Line had potential(潜力) to become a park. There was growing interest in improving city centers, and so the project quickly developed and money for construction was easily collected.
The first section of the High Line opened in 2009 and immediately became popular with tourists and locals alike. Each part of the park has a different atmosphere. Some areas are like balconies(阳台) with wonderful city views. Where the rail line goes between buildings, trees are thickly planted. Other sections have wide lawns(草坪) and walkways planted with wild flowers. Only the final section remains the way it has been for the last fifty years.

The underlined part “a dead weight” (Paragraph 1) means__________.

D.They were interested in improving the city.

Why were people easily persuaded by David and Hammond’s idea?

Why do Americans struggle with watching their weight, while the French, who consume rich food, continue to stay thin? Now a research by Cornell University suggests how life style and decisions about eating may affect weight. Researchers concluded that the French tend to stop eating when they feel full. However, Americans tend to stop when their plate is empty or their favorite TV show is over.
According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, a health expert, the French see eating as an important part of their life style. They enjoy food and therefore spend a fairly long time at the table, while Americans see eating as something to be squeezed between the other daily activities. Mercola believes Americans lose the ability to sense when they are actually full. So they keep eating long after the French would have stopped. In addition, he points out that Americans drive to huge supermarkets to buy canned and frozen foods for the week. The French, instead, tend to shop daily, walking to small shops and farmers’ markets where they have a choice of fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs as well as high-quality meats for each meal.
After a visit to the United States, Mireille Guiliano, author of French Women Don’t Get Fat, decided to write about the importance of knowing when to stop rather than suggesting how to avoid food. Today she continues to stay slim and rarely goes to the gym.
In spite of all these differences, evidence shows that recent life style changes may be affecting French eating habits. Today the rate of obesity(肥胖症) — or extreme overweight — among adults is only 6%. However, as American fast food gains acceptance and the young reject older traditions, the obesity rate among French children has reached 17% — and is growing.
In what way are the French different from Americans according to Dr. Joseph Mercola?

A.They go shopping at supermarkets more frequently.

Trees are useful to man in three important ways: they give him wood and other useful things, they give him cool places, and they help to stop drought and flood.
Unluckily, in many parts of the world, man has not found that the third of these points is the most important. Man wants to make money from trees, so he has cut them down in large numbers, only to find that without them he has lost the best friends he had. And also, he is usually too careless to plant and look after new trees. So the forests slowly disappear.
This does not only mean that man will have fewer trees. The results are even worse: for where there are trees, their roots break up soil---make the rain in ---and also bind(凝固) the soil, thus stopping it from being washed away easily; but where there are no trees, the rain falls on hard ground and flows away, causing floods and carrying away the rich top-soil. When all the topsoil is gone, nothing is left but useless desert.
The most important points of trees to man is ________.

A.they help him to make money
B.they give him cool
C.they give him wood and other things
D.they help him to stop drought and floods

In many places forests slowly disappear because ________ .

A.many trees have been cut down by man
B.new trees are not well looked after
C.man has not paid enough attention to planting trees
D.all the above

Land becomes desert after all trees are cut down because ________ .

A.roots of trees break up the soil
B.there are too many rainfalls
C.strong winds bring a lot of sand
D.there are no longer trees to keep the rain and protect the top-soil.

Which title best fits the passage?

A.Trees and Man
B.The Function of Tree Wood
C.How do People do with Trees?
D.The Usage of Tree Roots

What can we learn from the passage ?

A.Almost all forests are destroyed.
B.Most of the land on the earth has become desert .
C.We should take measures to stop the forests from being cut down in large numbers.
D.Trees can bring fresh air .
