One day a man saw an old lady standing by her expensive car, clearly in need of help. So he stopped his old truck and got out. Although he was smiling, the old lady was worried. Was he gong to hurt her? He didn’t look safe.
The man could see that she was frightened, so in his friendliest voice he said, “I’m here to help you, madam. Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.” Bryan quickly fixed the car and the lady thanked him. Then she asked how much she should pay him.
But Bryan wanted no money. He was just giving a hand to someone in trouble. This was normal for him. He said, “If you really want to repay me, next time you see someone in need, help them and think of me.”
After saying goodbye, the lady continued down the road until she reached a small café where she decided to stop for something to eat. As the pretty waitress took her order, the lady noticed she was nearly eight months pregnant(怀孕). Although the waitress looked tired she was very kind. As the lady was going to pay the $10 bill she remembered Bryan’s words.
She paid with a hundred-dollar bill. But when the waitress returned with the change the lady was gone. On the table she saw a small note. There ware tears in her eyes when she read it: “Somebody once helped me the way I’m helping you. If you want to pay me back, continue being kind to others.” Under the note were nine more $100 bills.
Was the old lady an angel? The waitress was so excited that she called her husband to tell him the news. “Bryan Anderson my dear…you’re not going to believe what just happened…”When the lady saw Bryan, she was worried because she thought_____ .
A.he may hurt her | B.he wasn’t going to stop |

On Dec.9,three Chinese astronauts gave a science lecture 400 kilometers above Earth!Zhai Zhigang,Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu who are working aboard the Tiangong space station, showed our students a glimpse of their life there. They also did some fun science experiments.Let's take a look at some of them.
Use it or lose it
The human body grows with the pull of Earth's gravity (重力).But in space, our bones and muscles (肌肉) don't need to support our body's weight. This will cause bone and muscle loss. It's reported that astronauts can lose up to 20% of their muscles after just a couple of weeks. That is dangerous for astronauts because they will be too weak to work.
Astronauts have different ways to prevent this.During the lecture,Zhai introduced a special uniform Ye was wearing. It's called a "penguin suit".There are many elastic bands(弹力带)inside the suit.Wearing it,astronauts use their muscles to stretch(拉伸) the bands. This keeps their muscles strong.Wang also showed students how she walked on a treadmill (跑步机) and rode a bicycle.Astronauts exercise with these tools every day to prevent muscle loss.
Space water is different
Water in space acts differently from water on Earth in other ways. For example, water will not flow(流动) downward if you try to pour it into a cup. That's why astronauts usually drink water through straws(吸管)in sealed(密封的)bags. If astronauts cry,the tears will stay on their eyeballs instead of falling down. They have to wipe(擦拭)them away!
During another experiment,Wang made a water film (膜).Then she added more water drops onto the film to make it a water ball. This can never happen on Earth.

When you first meet Meggie, you may think she’s strange. She often tells people which word “tastes” good and who has a “delicious” name. But she’s not crazy. She has synesthesia (伴生感觉), something only one in 2,000 people has.
People who have synesthesia experience the world differently. For some people, different words “taste” differently, for some, numbers or letters have colors, and for some, music “touches” parts of their bodies. Many of them experience more than one kind of synesthesia, while some have just one, like Meggie.
Each of them has their own experience- two people with synesthesia may both “feel” music, but they almost never feel the music in the same way. For example, one may feel the music of the violin lightly brushing his face; the other may feel it on her ankle (脚踝). And one’s experience of synesthesia is always the same. If they see the number 5 in the color blue, then 5 is blue every time they see it.
There’s one thing about synesthesia: it can’t be “turned off”. If you have synesthesia, you’ll experience it all the time. Meggie once met a guy and his name made her think of the taste of bad eggs. He was a fun guy, but after thinking about his name all night, she felt too sick to be friends with him. Even so, she still likes this “gift” because that’s what makes her different.

C. |
For some people with synesthesia, numbers or letters have colors. |
