Can you imagine a classroom without one thing that has long been considered a necessary part? No notebooks, no textbooks, no test papers. Nor are there any pencils or pens, which always seem to run out of ink at the critical moment.
A “Paperless classroom” is what more and more schools are trying to realize. Students don’t do any handwriting in this class. Instead, they use hand-sized or specially-designed computers. The teacher downloads texts from Internet libraries and sends them to every student’s personal computer.
Having computers also means that students can use the Web. They can look up information on any subject they’re studying, from maths to social science.
A high school teacher, Judy Herrel in Florida, US, described how her class used the Web. “Using a book that’s three or four years old is impossible,” she said.
A paperless classroom is a big step towards reducing the waste of paper.
“Think about the money and trees we could save with the computers,” she said.
But, with all this technology, there’s always a risk that the machines will break down. So, in case of a power failure or a technical problem, paper textbooks should still be widely available (可得到的) for these students.
The underlined word “critical” in the first paragraph probably has the same meaning as _______.

A.worrying B.dangerous C.happy D.important

You are sure to find __________ in a paperless classroom.

A.pens B.computers C.test papers D.notebooks

According to Judy Herrel, __________.

A.the Web can talk the students everywhere
B.the Web can take the place of teachers
C.the Web is a better tool for information
D.the Web is for downloading information

The paper textbooks should still be widely available because __________.

A.students won’t have trouble with their pens
B.computers may break down sometimes
C.students may not get all information from the Internet
D.paper textbooks may give students more information

Father’s Day has a very short history. It was started because there was a Mother’s Day, and just because some Americans thought that if we had a Mother’s Day, we should also have a Father’s Day. Father’s Day has become important in North America. And businesses found it was a good way to get people to buy a present for their father from their shops.
By the way, very few countries have a Father’s Day, though some have a Children’s Day, or a special day for boys and another for girls. More and more countries are having Mother’s Day, so maybe Father’s Day will also become popular before too long. Now, what do people in North America do on Father’s Day? The newspapers, radios, and TV tell children what they should do — buy, buy, buy, buy, buy a Father’s Day present for your father. They even tell a wife to buy, buy, buy, and buy a Father’s Day present — not for her father but for her husband, even if he is not yet a father. And they tell grandchildren to buy, buy, buy, and buy a Father’s Day present for their grandfathers.

Many people don’t think that the number 13 is a lucky number. Many hotels do not have a 13th floor. The floors go from 12 to 14, and there is no number13. Some people will never sit at a table with 12 other people. They will tell someone to go or ask another person to sit with them.
No one really knows why people do not like the number 13. Perhaps one reason is that when people began to count, they used ten fingers and two hands. This made 12. They could not count more.
Some Christians (基督徒) say that 13 is not lucky because there were 13 people at a meal the day before Jesus (耶稣) was killed (被杀). In a story about the old Greek (希腊的) gods, 12 gods were asked to a meal but one more came. This made 13. It is why the god Balder, who was at the meal, was killed.

In the opinion of many people, the twoparent family is the correct way to raise children. Traditionally, this has been as the most natural way, but singleparent families have had to face prejudices(偏见) against their lifestyle. However, the singleparent family is the fastest growing type of family. In the United States, a national survey showed that at least 50% of children will be members of a singleparent family. So we think it is important to throw prejudices away and to see the advantages of singleparent families.
When compared to twoparent families, singleparent families are usually at a disadvantage in some ways. They are often in short of money, and children receive less attention. What’s more, single parents can find themselves under too much pressure(压力) of both work and home. Despite(尽管) these disadvantages, it is possible for singleparent families to look for support from friends, schools, communities or other organizations. They need to remember that nobody can do it alone.
Surprisingly, singleparent families also have some advantages over twoparent families. Single parents have greater flexibility(灵活性) in spending time with children, because they don’t have to consider the needs of a husband or wife. So they can develop closer relationships with their children. Another advantage comes from the fact that single parents often work together with their children to solve problems, which makes children feel more needed and valued.
It’s important to remember that singleparent families have, until now suffered prejudices from some people. They think that it’s easier for the children in singleparent families to drop out of school in teens, and to be jobless in their early twenties. But, with the support from friends, schools and communities, singleparent families become more accepted by society, and this situation is certain to improve. In the future we will probably see these prejudices disappear.
What does the writer mainly tell us in Paragraph 1?
A. People shouldn’t have prejudices against singleparent families.
B. The singleparent family is not good for raising children.
C. The twoparent family is the correct way to raise children.
D. 50% of children will be members of a singleparent family in the USA.
Which disadvantage of singleparent families is NOT mentioned in Paragraph 2?

A.They are often in short of money.
B.Children may receive less attention.
C.Children also suffer from the prejudice.
D.Parents are under pressure of both work and home.

How can single parents make their children feel more needed and valued?

A.Don’t consider the needs of others.
B.Pay more attention to their children.
C.Develop closer relationships with their children.
D.Discuss and solve problems together with their children.

Which of the following may be the best title for this passage?

A.Advantages and Disadvantages
B.Changing Views on Singleparent Families
C.Best Lifestyle for Children
