It's the end of class. When the bell rings, students of Luohu Foreign
Languages School in Shenzhen quickly take out their cell phones.
They want to log on to their micro blogs to check the interesting things that have happened in the last hour.
Since last year, the trend (潮流) of micro blogging has swept the country. Recent surveys shows that most students in middle schools have a micro blog and some even update their blogs over five times per day.
"We learn many fresh and interesting things on micro blogs and they have become popular topics in class," said Andy Liang, 14. "If you do not know about them, you are out of the loop."
It is also a great place for students to let out stress. "My parents always ask me to study hard, and encourage me before exams, but it really adds pressure," said Simon Zhang, 15. "When I share these feelings on my micro blog, I get many replies from friends in the same situation, which makes me feel better."
But parents are worried that micro blogging could be a waste of time. Some misleading messages may even cause danger to kids, they said.
Mr. Shen, a professor at the China Education Association, suggests parents not worry too much as long as kids are not crazy about micro blogging. Maybe it can become a window for parents to understand their children.
"If parents can read their children's micro blogs, they'll know their thoughts, thus leading to better communication and solutions to problems," he said. He also gives some tips for kids.
-Don't micro blog for more than one hour a day.
-Never micro blog in class.
-Try to talk face to face with people from time to time.
-Be critical(批判性的). Don't trust all the messages on a micro blog.Andy Liang thinks students are out of the loop if they don't know.

When the teacher asks a question in class, Wang Xiaobin never raises his hand. The 15-year-old Beijinger always waits for other classmates or the teacher to give the answer. “What if my answer is wrong?” Wang asks.
Wang is typical (典型的) among students who don’t put their hands up to answer teachers’ questions. At middle schools, this situation is very common.
Wang told that there are 53 students in his class, only six or seven raise their hands when a question is asked. “I think it’s a problem that might affect our studies, but I am afraid of making mistakes in front of my classmates,” he said.
This problem has attracted teachers’attention. Hu Wei, a teacher from Yibin No. 6 Middle School, Sichuan, listed some possible reasons to explain why students don’t raise their hands: they lack confidence;they are afraid of showing off or they’re afraid of losing face by giving a wrong answer.
To encourage students to raise their hands and get more involved (参与) in class, Hu suggests that teachers should repeat the question, then try to guide and encourage students to offer their answers.
Hu also advised students not to be shy, but confident and brave enough to try. No matter whether your answer is right or wrong, being active in class can help you understand the information better.
Sun Pin, 16 of Fujian, always raises her hand as soon as she comes up with the answer, even if she isn’t sure she has gotten it right. Sun can’t understand why some of her classmates keep silent in class. She enjoys raising her hand a lot. “It keeps me enthusiastic (热情) and confident to express my idea,” Sun said. “Raising my hand has really made me outstanding.

Perhaps the only test score that I remembered is the 55 when I was in high school.
The test was the final for a course. I remembered waiting anxiously as my teacher Mr. Right passed out our papers one by one. It was a rather difficult test. I heard my classmates groaning, and I could tell by the groans that the scores weren’t looking good.
Mr. Right put my paper on my desk. There in big red numbers, circled to draw attention, was my score, 55!
I lowered my head, and covered the score up quickly. A 55 is not something that I wanted my classmates to see. “The scores were not very good, none of you passed,” Mr. Right said. “The highest score in the class was a 55.”
A 55. That’s me!
Suddenly my sad look didn’t look so bad. I had the highest score. I felt a lot better.
I walked home alone that day with the low but high score. My father knew that I had a big test that day and asked me as soon as I got home, “How did you do in your test?” “I made a 55,” I said.
A frown(皱眉) now stood on my father’s face. I knew I had to explain immediately. “But Dad, I had the highest score in the class, ” I proudly stated. I thought that explanation would make a difference. “You failed!” my father replied. “But it’s the highest!” I insisted. “I don’t care what scores others had, but you failed. What matters is what you do!” my father firmly said.
For years, my father was always that way. It didn’t matter what others did, it only mattered what I did and that I did it excellently.
We often don’t understand the wisdom(智慧)of good parents until we ourselves stand in the parents’ shoes. My father’s words have carried me throughout life.

Last week, all the teachers and students of our schooll watched a special performance(表演)by a group of disabled people. The first program was a dance named“The light of life”. To my surprise, all the dancers had to face so many difficulties. However, they showed us an amazing performance.
The two people who came out next shocked us all. The first one was a singer. He was very young. But unluckily,he had lost both of his hands in a big fire. The song he sang for us was “Late Autumn”,and he sang it in such a low and sweet voice. Though it was warm spring, I felt a little cold when I heard the song as if it was really late autumn.“How much love and feeling is hidden in my heart? I wish to hold your hands again.”Hearing this,I couldn’t keep back my tears.
The other one was also a young man. He lost both of his arms when he was six. From then on, his feet became his“hands”. He could do a number of things with his feet. The two words“Flying High”expressed his wishes.
“If your wings are gone, your heart can still fly,”said Zhang Haidi, a disabled writer. In the world, there are many disabled people, yet most of them don’t give up. They have strong wishes and beautiful dreams. Disabililty doesn’t mean failure. Once you try hard, miracles(奇迹)will happen sooner or later.

Literature is a word used to describe written as well as spoken material. Generally speaking, it is often used to describe anything from creative imagination, including works of poetry, drama and fiction.
Then why read literature, since it is often imaginary and seems unconnected with real life?
A lot of us read literature for enjoyment and relaxation. It’s always pleasant to read some interesting books in our spare time. In a modern life full of stress, it is our common wish to read some imaginary works and look for relaxation from the stress in life.
Reading literature is more than fun; it also allows us to get knowledge. As a general rule, literature represents a language of a people, and it often gives us an insight(洞察力) into the traditions, attitudes and values of the age in which it was written.
Sometimes literature can even offer us new, creative ways to have a better understanding of the world. It introduces us to new worlds of experiences. We enjoy the comedy and the tragedy of poems, stories and plays; and we may even grow through our literary journey with books. At last we may discover meaning in literature by looking at what the writer says and how he or she says it. In some ways, we explore the human condition and analyze(分析) the way they think and feel the way they feel. Literature helps us think clearly and encourages us to open minds.
So we can certainly say literature is of great importance to us. Why not get going with one poem, drama or fiction at once?
