Some teenagers think that newspapers are boring and only for adults. But that's not true. There are many interesting stories in the paper. You just need to make clear what you are looking at. “I spend about half an hour reading newspapers every day,” said 15-year-old Gao Ming from Beijing. “I'm interested in things happening at school.” School news is just one kind of news story in newspapers. There's also world news: from international problems to pop stars.
Read the newspaper carefully, we'll find different types of articles on the pages:
News stories — these stories are about events. Reporters try to show all points of a story to help readers understand what happened. Reporters try to speak to as many people as possible. They also use pictures and numbers to show the readers that the stories are true. The newspaper Teenagers has lots of news stories on the news page and front page. When we read them, we learn more about the facts, not the writers’ ideas.
Opinion writing — opinion writing is usually about something happening right now. But it isn't just facts. Here writers add their own opinions to the news. Writers pick only the facts that help back up their ideas. They make readers believe that they are telling the truth. This is usually the kind of story that gets people thinking. Go to “Speak Out” on Page Two for an example of opinion writing in Teenagers.
Advertisement — Don’t get happy too early when you read them. Those sweet words and lovely pictures are just ways to get us interested in their products! People have to pay to put advertisements in newspapers!

At the beginning of the match, a big and strong player from Class Two got the ball and passed several of our players. He kicked the ball hard to the goal.“Oh, dear!”my classmates shouted surprisedly. Luckily, our goalkeeper Steve caught the ball. At the end of the first half of the match, there was no score.
After resting for ten minutes, the match began again. Our headteacher Mr. Zhang cheered us on all the time.“Teamwork! Teamwork!”he kept shouting. At this time, Kangkang got the ball. He kicked the ball to Jack and Jack kicked the ball to our captain (队长) Li Lei. He passed four players with the ball and then kicked the ball into the goal. The crowd jumped cheerfully. Once a year, a race is held for old cars. A lot of cars entered for this race last year and there was a great deal of excitement just before it began. One of the most handsome cars was a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. The most unusual car was a Benz which had only three wheels (车轮). Made in 1885, it was the oldest car taking part in the race. After a great many loud explosions, the race began. Many of the cars broke down on the course and some drivers spent more time under their cars than in them.
A few cars, however, completed the race. The winning car reached a speed (速度) of forty miles an hour — much faster than any of its rivals. It sped (加速前进) downhill at the end of the race and its driver had a lot of trouble trying to stop it. The race gave everyone a great deal of pleasure. It was very different from modern car races but no less exciting.

During the cold winter days you may find it hard to wake up in the morning. It’s warm and cozy (舒适的) in your bed.
In winter, many animals like to sleep, too. But their sleeps can be very long and deep. This kind of sleep is called hibernation (冬眠). During this kind of sleep, their temperatures go down, and hearts beat (跳动) slowly. They take very small breaths(呼吸).
