In our town, there is a big zoo with a lot of animals in it. There are some beautiful tigers and two old lions. They eat a lot of meat every day.
There are also two big elephants and one baby elephant. The elephants are kind animals. They eat a lot every day. They like children. Children often give them bread and bananas. Elephants like bananas best.
In our zoo there are also brown bears(熊), black bears and white bears. They stand on their hind(后面的)legs, hold up their fore(前面的)legs and ask for(要)food. They like cakes very much.
There’s also a children’s corner in our zoo. Children ride horses(马)and donkeys(驴)and watch the monkeys there. The monkeys are very funny. They climb up ropes(绳子)and jump (跳)down again and play with each other(彼此,互相) like small children.

I arrived at the 57 thSt. Subway Station in New York City at about 10p. m. one evening on my way home. The platform (站台) is long and there weren't many people around. I could hear the weak sound of a violin. As I listened, it appeared to be coming from the other end of the station and it sounded like Mendelsohn's violin concerto(协奏曲) without the orchestra (乐队). I took a walk along the platform until I reached where the sounds came front. There was a young man playing the concerto and playing very well too. A small crowd had been there to listen and had become so interested in the music that they were letting trains go without getting on them. More people came to listen as a few passengers got off each train. At the end of the piece there was a stormy cheer from the listeners and we all left some money for him. I wanted to hear more, so I asked him to play the Bruch concerto, which he did while I let several more trains go without me. I finally went home, feeling the pleasure of such music.
A few weeks later, I read an article in the New York Sunday Times that a talented young violinist had been "discovered" playing in the Subway Station and there was a picture of our 57 thSt. violinist. He had been offered a job with the orchestra of the New York City Opera.

Dear Dr. Know,
My brother is going to be 11and I am 14. My brother and I always get into fights. Whenever he does something wrong like hitting me, messing my room or taking my toys, he never gets in trouble. But when I do this kind of things, I'm always groundedand it's not fair.
I tried talking to my parents about this and all they said was that they would try harder. However since they said this it has never happened. I don't know what to do. I sometimes just try to get on the computer and there he goes. He starts saying he wants to use the computer even though we have 3computers in the house. But all that my dad says is to get off only for 30minutes. I keep telling him that he can use the computer downstairs but he complains( 抱怨) that he is too scared.
I've talked to my friends about this and they don't know what to say. I've tried talking to him and being nice to him but it didn't work. He just doesn't stop. He's making my life terrible! My dream is to have an understanding brother. What should I do for that?
Help me please!
Kelsey

In Britain,Boxing Day is usually celebrated on December 26th(61) This means it's not a working day in the whole of Britain. When Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday is the public holiday.
(62) One of the thoughts is that during the Middle Ages, when great sailing ships were setting off to discover new land,a Christmas Box was placed by a priest(神父) on each ship. Those sailors who wanted a safe return would drop money into the box.(63)
One more thought is about the"Alms Box"placed in every church on Christmas Day.Worshippers (做礼拜的人)put gifts for the poor into it.These boxes were always opened the day after Christmas.(64) Today, many businesses, organizations and families try to keep the traditional spirit of Boxing Day alive by giving away money to Food Banks, providing gifts for the poor,or helping families in need. (65)
A.That is why that day became known as Boxing Day.
B.It was sealed up (密封) and kept on board until the ship came home safely.
C.Like Christmas Day,Boxing Day is a public holiday.
D.Besides, spending time with family and shopping are necessary activities on Boxing Day now.
E.The exact origin (起源) of the holiday is unclear.
"Without music, life would be a mistake,"famous German philosopher(哲学家) Friendrich Nietzsche said over a century ago.Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some US schools have cut music classes to control budgets(预算).
For example,Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired(解雇)over 1,000 teachers.Among them,10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US.In other countries, such as China and the UK,music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That's partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn't tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork,so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often.
However, learning music is beneficial(有益的)in many ways.
When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth Guilmartin of Music Together,an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode(解码)them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.
Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music:Einstein played the violin, and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.

C. |
Decoding music notes is needed while we are playing music. |
