I was blind, but I was ashamed of it if it was known. I refused to use a white stick and 36 asking for help. After all, I was a teenage girl, and I couldn’t bear people to look at me and think I was not 37 them. I must have been a terrible danger on the roads. Coming across me wandering through the traffic, motorists probably would have to step 38 on their brakes. Apart from that, there were all sorts of disasters that used to occur on the way to and from work.
One evening, I got off the bus about halfway home where I had to change buses, and as usual I 39 something. “I’m awfully sorry,” I said and stepped forward only to run into it again. When it happened a third time, I realized I had been 40 to a lamppost. This was just one of the 41 things that constantly happened to me. So I carried on and found the bus stop, which was a request stop, where the bus wouldn’t stop 42 passengers wanted to get on or off. No one else was there and I had to try to guess if the bus had arrived.
Generally in this situation, because I hated 43 I was blind by asking for help, I tried to guess at the sound. Sometimes I would 44 a big lorry and stand there feeling stupid as it drew away. In the end, I usually managed to 45 my pride and ask someone at the stop for help.
46 on this particular evening no one joined me at the stop; it seemed that everyone had suddenly decided not to travel by bus. Of course I heard plenty of buses pass, or I thought I did. But because I had given up stopping them 47 making a fool of myself. I let them all go by. I stood there alone for half an hour without stopping one. Then I gave up. I decided to walk on to the next stop.

I grew up in a small town and the main entertainment was Friday night high school football. It was just a sleepy little town where parents wanted to raise their children away from and danger of a big city, and where teenagers like me leaving to find something bigger and better.
All that one summer night. My friend Lisa, Kim and Tyler held a party for my eighteenth birthday at Lisa’s house. As they kept alcohol to me, I was pretty drunk. I asked Tyler to take me home. With some , we made it out to his car and drove home. News came next morning. Kim, my friend we were five years old, was killed in a car accident. That night after Tyler and I left, Kim, who was more drunk than me, got into her car and towards the highway to go home. She was driving on the wrong side of the road and never saw the truck coming. The driver didn’t see her to avoid the car. They hit head on. Kim died immediately, and the driver was thrown the truck windshield (挡风玻璃) and died a week later.
Whenever I back on that day, I can’t help thinking that it was my to drink so much that night, otherwise things would be different. I know Kim the choice to drink and drive that night , but a part of me will always feel for what happened.
I may not change the with my story, but I do hope that I can make people the responsibility that they have to themselves and others by it. Don’t ever think that your choices are yours . Every choice is like a stone dropped into water—each ripple (波纹) represents someone who your choice . That’s quite an influence, isn’t it?

There are many people who could be Olympic champions. It's easy to be great because great people will help you. I’d five million people could have me in the pole vault (撑杆跳) the years I won it, at five million. Men who were stronger and faster than I was could have done it, but they never a pole, never made the to pick their legs off the ground to try to get over the bar.
Greatness is all us. It’s easy to be great because great people will help you. What is fantastic about all the conventions I go to is the greatest in the business will come and share their ideas, their methods and their with everyone else. I have seen the greatest men open up and show young people exactly how they did it. They don’t .
I’ll never forget the time I was to break Dutch Warmer Dam’s record. I was about a foot his record, so I called him on the phone. I said, "Dutch, can you me? I seem to have leveled off. I can’t get any higher."
He said, “ , Bob, come to visit me and I’ll give you all I got.” I three days with the master, the greatest pole vaulter in the world. For three days, Dutch gave me that he’d seen. To make a long short, I went up eight inches. That great guy gave me the best that he had. I’ve found that sports champions and heroes do this just to help you become great, too.
Great people will share and will tell you their . Look for them, call them on the phone or buy their books. Go they are, get around them, and talk to them. It is to be great when you get around great people.

Reuse means “use again”. Use things for possible. When we buy things, make sure that they a long time. We should take care of them they will last, and we should them if we can instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. Don't use a paper cup or a paper bag. The most famous animal said to be capable of counting was a horse in Germany at the beginning of the 19th century called Clever Hans. The horse’s owner that animals could think and reason as we can and that this could come from training them. He trained Clever Hans to give the to arithmetic (算术的) problems; the horse gave the correct answer by the right number of times with its forefoot. The animal gave the correct answers not only to additions but to other arithmetic, too. It also gave the right answers when the questions were shown to it on a card.
This was talked about so much that scientists studied the horse’s . The committee, after a(n) study, found that Clever Hans’ owner and trainer was . He had not deliberately trained his horse to stop tapping by giving it a slight . Members of the committee got the right answers from Hans when the owner wasn’t there, that this type of trickery (诡计) hadn’t happened.
It looked as if the horse really could think and . But soon after this another scientist found that if the horse was asked questions to which none of the people there knew the answers, then the animal gave a correct answer. The questions were asked by showing the horse a card that the questioner himself had not .
This biologist soon discovered that the horse had actually to very slight unconscious (下意识的) movements of head or body made by a questioner who knew the number of taps. He counted the taps to himself, and when the horse got to the right number, the questioner’s tension (紧张感) was by a small, unconscious movement of his head or body. The horse then tapping. Questioners who didn’t know the answer didn’t do this. The horse had really itself to answer these very small during its training.
