Jack London was a famous American writer. He was born on January 12, 1876, in America.His family was very poor, and Jack had to leave school to make a living when he was twelve. He worked very hard.
Later Jack returned to school. He was strict with himself and worked hard at every subject, especially (尤其) literature(文学) .
In 1897, he went to Alaska to look for gold(黄金). Instead of getting gold, he found material for his books and stories. He returned home and started to write. His writings were so successful that he became rich and famous in his twenties.

Can’t your newspaper do something about the habit if hitchhiking(搭乘)?
On a recent car trip Icounted at least 50 people standing beside the road, asking for rides. Many of them were young girls.
Don’t they understand how dangerous it is to get into a car driven by a stranger? What do they know about the driver’s character or ability to drive? Nothing.
Many of the young hitchhikers probably come from good families. Don’t their parents teach them anything about the world? I always teach my children not to talk to strangers. I never allow them to accept rides from people they didn’t know.
Isn’t there enough crime (犯罪) today without asking for trouble by hitchhiking?

Do you have any problems in your life and don’t know how to be happy? If so, you will find Being a Happy Teenager written by an Australian writer Andrew Matthews.
In his book, Matthews tells us how to have a happy life and answers the questions of teenagers. There are many subjects, such as parents and friends, and the book says we should stop being angry and should forgive (宽恕). When the weather is hot, you go to a lake or an ocean. When you are near a lake or an ocean, you feel cool. Why? The sun makes the earth hot, but it cannot make the water hot. Though the air over the earth becomes hot, the air over the water stays cool. The hot air over the earth goes up, and then the cool air over the water moves in and takes the air near a lake or an ocean, you feel the cool air when it moves around you.
