Once upon a time, there was a large mountainside, where an eagle’s nest rested. The eagle’s nest contained four 36 eagle eggs. One day an earthquake rocked (使震动) the mountain 37 one of the eggs to roll down the mountain, 38 a chicken farm, which was in the valley below. The chickens knew that they must 39 and care for the eagle’s egg, so an old hen 40 to hatch (孵) and raise the large egg.
One day, the egg hatched and a beautiful eagle was born. 41 , however, the eagle was raised to be a(n) 42 . Soon, the eagle believed he was 43 more than a chicken. The eagle loved his home and family, 44 his spirit cried out for more. While playing a game on the farm one day, the eagle looked to the skies above and 45 a group of eagles soaring (高飞) in the skies. “Oh,” the eagle 46 , “I wish I could soar like those birds.” The chickens shouted with 47 , “You cannot soar with those birds. You are a chicken and chickens do not soar.”
The eagle 48 staring at his real family up above, 49 that he could be with them. Each time the eagle would let his 50 be known, he was told it couldn’t be done. That is 51 the eagle learned to believe. Slowly, the eagle 52 dreaming and continued to live his life like a chicken. 53 , after a long life as a chicken, the eagle 54 .
You become what you believe you are; so if you ever dream to become an eagle, 55 your dreams, not the words of a chicken.
When I was in the 8th grade in Ohio, a girl named Helen in my class had a terrible accident. As she was 36 to the bus in order not to miss it, she slipped on the ice and fell under the back wheels of the bus. She 37 the accident but was paralyzed from the waist down. I went to see her, in my 13-year-old 38 thinking that she wouldn’t live 39 from then on.
Over the years, I 40 and didn’t think much about Helen after that. Three years ago, in Florida, my oldest son was hit by a car while riding his bike, 41a terrible brain injury. While I was looking after my son, a lady who said she was the hospital’s social worker called. It was a (an) 42 trying day. I burst into tears for no reason and rang 43 .

I told her who I was, and after we both went through the shock of that, she began to tell me about 47 since we last saw each other. She married, had children and got her degree so that she 48 the path for those people who were less 49 than her. She told me that if there was anything she could give me, it would be 50 .
Looking at this wonderful, giving person, I felt 51 . But I also felt the first hope I had since learning that my son was 52 . From this person that I thought would have no 53 of life, I learned that where there is life, there is hope. My son miraculously 54 and we moved north, but I owe Helen 55 that I can never repay.

I became a gardener when I was twelve. My early 36 of gardening may not have originated from my love for nature. It was to 37 my parents.
At that time, we had a big yard in which a beautiful maple tree stood. But my mother often looked with 38 at this work of natural art. Those golden leaves seemed like tons of rubbish to her, “something else to 39 !”Seeing the neighbors busy with gardening, my father even thought it a waste of time.
At that age, I always did something 40 to whatever my parents did!If gardening were something they found 41 , I would plant a garden!
I planted some lily(百合花)seeds in the yard. But they failed to 42 . I continued to plant sunflower seeds and roses. Wild 43 joy, I found the first rose bloom(开花). One by one, the flowers bloomed their heads off. 44 , I was touched by this land of wonder.
45 , my parents showed no interest in my garden. My father even 46 at me because he found it was 47 to move around my garden to the driveway. To my mother’s 48 , I put in her vase my real roses which, in her eyes, were simply weeds49 flowers.
Regardless of their 50 , I kept on planting my garden and 51 to enjoy the pleasure of gardening. Plants make such good companions: they breathe, they bloom, they 52 to care and love.
It has been many years since I made my first garden out of my desire to 53 my parents. Today I become known as Mrs. Greenthumbs, teaching gardening and hosting a gardening show, which makes my parents feel very 54 . And now I could say it is my affection for55 that makes me a real gardener.

As a child, I was told that a wise person is the one who learns from everyone. It is a great way to live by this 1 ----One begins to look at people very 2 and he no longer puts others 3 in order to feel good about himself.
Living in China 4 me with many wonderful opportunities to put this theory (理论) into practice, China is quite 5 and as a Westerner, it’s easy for me to consider many of the local habits as “strange” and even “rude”. However, slowly I began to 6 a lot about the culture and about where many of their 7 came from. I decided to make an effort to meet people and 8 from them.
I am living in Harbin now, a city in the Northern part of China, near Russia. Yesterday I 9 to get money from the ATM and have a good cup of coffee after lunch. But I can’t speak Chinese yet and there are no signs in English 10 the nearest supermarket or coffee shop. There are signs in Russian. 11 “espaciba” which means thanks, I don’t know much else. 12 I decided to smile at my every attempt(尝试) to 13 and ask for information that would 14 me to an ATM and a coffee shop. It turned out that my efforts and my 15 were met with more smiles. I learned that 16 is to be found everywhere even17 I cannot communicate, and that people will 18 depending on what I give.
Look around you for opportunities to learn from the most 19 people. You will be surprised at what they can 20 you!

While watching the Olympics the other night, I came across an incredible(难以置信的) sight. The 36 was swimming and started with only three men. For one reason or another, two of them had a37 start, so they were disqualified. That would have been difficult enough, not having anyone to 38 against.
I watched the man 39 off the blocks and knew immediately that something was wrong. Now I’m not an expert 40 but I do know a good dive 41 a poor one, and this was not exactly medal 42 . I listened to the crowd begin to 43 this poor man that was clearly having a 44 time. Finally he made his turn to start back. It was 45 he made a few desperate(拼命的) stroke(划水) and you could tell he was exhausted.
But in those few 46 strokes, the crowd had changed. No longer were they laughing, but beginning to 47 . Some even began to 48 things like, “Come on, you can do it!” and he49 finished his race. The crowd went 50 . Even though he recorded one of the 51 times in Olympic history, this man gave more heart than any of the other 52 .
In a competition where athletes remove their silver medals, feeling they have 53 been cheated out of gold, or when they act so 54 in front of their competitors, it is nice to watch an underdog(败者), a man that gave his all --- knowing that he had no chance, but competed because of his 55 and the spirit of the games.

One fine afternoon I was walking along the Fifth Avenue, when I remembered that it was necessary to buy a pair of socks.I 36 the first sock shop that caught my eye, and 37 , not more than 17, came forward. My amazement at his pride in 49 will be understood by all who read this article. In many shops the customer has to wait for someone to 50 him. When 51 some clerk does notice you, you are made to feel as if you were interrupting him. 52 possibly that very clerk who is now so 53 began his career with enthusiasm. The freshness 54 ; He became a mechanical salesman.
I’ve observed such change in the lives of so many men in so many occupations that I've come to the 55 that the fastest road to failure is to do things mechanically.
