The first event of my life to be printed into my memory occurred when I was three. My mother stands, working in the  41  and then glances at me with a  42   smile. Two feet down the table, I knock on a chair with a bowl and a spoon,  43   my own invisible (无形的) powder. We wear  44  dresses, mine the leftover  45    from hers, sky blue — mommy’s favorite color. I am her shadow.
However, by 14 I could not  46  my mother. All that I heard every day was NO. I wanted to dye my hair and she said no. I wanted to  47  late with my friends and she said no. I didn’t understand why she said no. She was trying to  48  me from aches and pains and mistakes  49  in her teens. Several years later, I finally understood her, but it was too late. She became ill. I cried and  50 , “Don’t take her, God, please! She is my mother, my mommy, ma, the woman who gave me life. All my years,  51  the hard times and the good, she has been there,  52  to me forever by an invisible umbilical cord (脐带) that lasts longer after birth.”But this cord, this love could do nothing to stop the cancer from  53 .
A few years later  54  I myself lay in the hospital bed, my newly born daughter was  55  in my arms. I cried and smiled and prayed. Please help me to  56  her into a wonderful girl. And looking down  57  her eyes, I could see the message they held, “Your  58  would be proud.”
I stand in the kitchen now, and these thoughts flashed through my mind. I glance at my young daughter. A  59  feeling rushes through my soul as I take in the familiar  60 .
I am my mother’s shadow.

I wrote my first poem at the age of seven and showed it to my mother. She read and cried, “Buddy, you really wrote a beautiful poem!”
Shyly but , I said yes.She poured out her . “It was nothing short of talent!”
“What time will Father be home?” I asked.I could hardly wait to my work to him.I spent quite some time for his arrival. I wrote the poem out in my finest handwriting, drew a fancy border around it and I placed it right on my father’s plate on the dining table. My father had begun his motion-picture career as a writer. I was sure he would be able to my poem.
At almost 7 o’clock my father burst in. He seemed . He circled the dining-room table, complaining about his employees.
Suddenly he paused and glared at his plate. “What is this?” He was reaching for my poem.
“Ben, Buddy has written his first poem!” my mother began. “And it’s beautiful, absolutely amaz…”
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to decide for myself.” Father said.
I my head as he read that poem. It was only ten lines. But it seemed to take hours. Then I heard him dropping the poem back on the table. Now came the moment of .
“I think it’s terrible,” he said.
I couldn’t look up. My eyes were getting .
“Ben, these are the first lines of poetry he’s ever written,” my mother was saying. “He needs .”
“I don’t know why.” My father held his ground. “Isn’t there enough awful poetry in the world already?”
I couldn’t it another second. I ran from the dining room crying. Up in my room I myself on the bed and cried the worst of the out of me.
That may have been the end of the story, but not of its for me. I realized how fortunate I had been. I had a mother who said, “I think it’s wonderful!” and a father who drove me to hear with “I think it’s .”
Every one of us needs that mother force, from which all flows; and yet the mother force alone is incomplete. It needs the balance of the force that , “Watch. Listen. Review. Improve.”
Those voices of my childhood ring in my ears through the years, like two opposing winds blowing me. Between the two poles of and doubt, both in the name of love, I try to follow my true course.

My father and I disagreed about curfew (晚间在家的时间). He’d say I was to be in by 9:30 on weekdays, and 11:00 on weekends, no exceptions without my first asking. In my class, there was a really weak-looking guy. I don’t know if his name was Vit or Wit. I will him as Wit in this story of mine. He was a pale, thin guy. Not only his build looked weak, the way he was also weak. He walked slowly but he tried to stay off of everyone’s way. The friends in my class, Jean and Ingrid, would him. Truth to be told,
I them as well. We did things like taking his stuff, like his pens and pencils, and them somewhere in the school.
Wit was also really of insects, even butterfly. Jean, Ingrid, and I often put beetle on his clothes and he would run around, trying to it off. There were many beetles in the school so that was the insect we used to scare him with. Other insects such as butterfly were hard to so we pretty much gave up on it. We would often take the when Wit was off-guard and put the insects on him. it was on him, he would run around or jump about. He was too scared to it and pull it off.
Suddenly one day, we were by the school. When I walked into the room, Wit’s mother, as well as Ingrid’s mother, Jean’s father, and mine were in the room silently. Wit’s mother said that Wit went home and the sandbag shouting “Jean!!! Ingrid!!! Archer!!!” every day. I wanted to laugh but didn’t with all the she was putting on us. She asked many things, including things I had no idea about such as “Who put Wit’s bag in the girl toilet?” Apparently, it was Jean who did it. Jean seemed to have bullied Wit quite a lot and got quite a(n) from Wit’s and her own mother.
I think it should have been quite guilty for to see us scolded by the parents. However, we decided to stop bullying Wit and be friendly to him.
