Two friends visited the zoo together. The zoo was very large and it was 36 to go everywhere. They had to decide where and which animal to visit as their time was 37 . So both of them agreed not to 38 after choosing a 39 at every fork (岔路口).
A road sign at the first fork 40 one way to the lion quarters and the other to the tiger hill. They decided on the 41 after a 42 discussion because lions were “the king of the grassland”. The second showed a division (路口) going separately to the panda and peacock. They 43 panda as it was the nation’s treasure and went its way. Thus they made choices all along the way and each choice meant 44 what they could regret. But they had to make it 45 , for it brooked (容忍) no delay. If they hesitated they would miss 46 . Life is 49 like this—choices often occur that one has to make, for example, between two 50 jobs, two fascinating wooers (追求者). To get one you 51 give up the other—you can get half of it. If you 52 weighing the pros and cons(权衡利弊) and calculating gains and losses, you will most likely 53 empty-handedness. Don’t be sad about it. 54 you have got half of the desirable things in life—something that is 55 to get.

Although I love my life, it hasn’t been a lot of fun as I’ve been ill for 28 years.
Music has always been a great love of mine and, in my 20s, when my 16 was more manageable , I 17 ten years as a professional singer in restaurants, playing and singing folk songs. 18 that was years ago and times have changed. 19 I live with mother on a country farm.
Two years ago, I decided that I would need to have some kind of extra work to 20 my disability pension (残疾抚恤金). 21 I needed to sleep in the afternoons, I was limited in my 22 . I decided that I would consider 23 to singing in restaurants.
My family are all musicians, so I was 24 when I went into our local music store. I explained that I wanted to sing again but using recorded karaoke music. I knew that discs were very expensive and I really didn’t have a lot of 25 to get started. And 26 you find only three to four songs out of ten on a disc that you can 27 use.
When I told the owner of the shop about my 28 ; he gave me a long thoughtful29 . “This means a lot to you, doesn’t it?” he said. “Come with me.”
He led me 30 the crowded shop and to a bench with a large professional karaoke box on it. He placed his large hand 31 on his treasure and said, “I have 800 karaoke songs in here. You can take your 32 and I’ll record them for you. That should get you started.”
I 33 . Thanking him, I made a time with him to listen to all the songs and choose34 that I could sing. I have come full circle with his help.
His 35 still warms my heart and makes me do just that bit extra, when I have the chance.

For a few years, I have been wearing a ring on my right hand. It’s not always the 16 ring, but it’s always a ring that has 17 on it so that when I look at it, I’m 18 or reminded of something important. I have made a 19 of buying rings like this whenever I see one in a store. Sometimes I give them away as 20 to someone like Jennie.
I first met Jennie in the 21 waiting room and we had talked several times. One night I sat down beside her and 22 how her son was doing because I knew that he was in very 23 condition. She told me that she didn’t know what to do any more because it seemed none of the 24 from the doctors was good. They weren’t at all sure her son was going to 25 the accident that had hurt him so badly. With 26in her eyes she said, “They’re 27 my hope.”
I knew then that it was 28 just a coincidence that I was wearing the ring that I had on that day. As she 29 to talk, I 30 slipped the ring off my finger and placed it in Jennie’s hand. I told her to wear it to remember that God loved her and He would be with her 31 all of this. 32 Jennie looked down at the ring, she got excited and then held it tightly, 33 the word written on the ring was “HOPE”.
The last day I was at the hospital, I saw Jennie in the distance as I got on the lift. She 34 and held up the hand with the ring on it as she called out to me saying, “Look, I 35 have Hope!”
