… My last piece of advice – this is simple, but perhaps most important: 36. Nothing worthwhile is easy. No one of achievement has avoided failure – sometimes catastrophic failures. But they keep at it. They learn from mistakes. They don’t 37.
When I first arrived on this 38, I was with little money, fewer options. But it was here that I tried to find my place in this world. I knew I wanted to make a difference, but it was 39 how in fact I’d go about it. But I wanted to do my part to 40 a better world.
So even as I worked after graduation in a few 41 jobs here in New York, even as I went from motley (鱼龙混杂的)apartment to motley apartment, I 42.
… And I wish I could say that this perseverance came from some innate (天生的)toughness in me. But the truth is, it was 43. I got it from 44 the people who raised me. I grew up as the son of a single mom who struggled to put herself through 45 and make ends meet. She had a marriage that fell apart; 46 went on food stamps at one point to help us 47. But she didn’t quit. And she earned her degree, and made sure that 48 scholarships and hard work, my sister and I earned 49.
And 50, I met a woman who was assigned to advise me on my first summer job at a law firm. And she gave me such good advice that I married her. And Michelle and I gave everything we had to balance our careers and a 51 family. We made that marriage work.

I lived in Dallas, Texas nearly all my life with my mom, dad and older sister. We were 41 to respect others, value education, and get all that we could out of life. My parents always say, “ 42 hard and the world is yours.” They are never without a 43 word of advice or a bit of encouragement when life gets tough.
My parents always 44 me to go to college. However, when I 45 at 16 years old that I’d rather get married to a man than go to college, they 46 stopped telling me they loved me and I could anything I wanted to. 47 , they persuaded me. I graduated from high school and currently 48 the University of Oklahoma studying medicine. I want to make the 49a better place to live in.

I returned to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, after graduation． I had been there before my mother became a minister． Two weeks later, I told my mother I was bored． She said, “Here’re the car keys． Go and buy some fruit．”_36_, I jumped into the car and speeded off．
Seeing me or rather my 37 , a boy sprang up, 38 to sell his bananas and peanuts． “Banana 300 naira． Peanut 200 naira!” Looking at his black-striped bananas, I 39 to 200 total for the fruit and nuts． He 40 and I handed him a 300 naira note． He didn’t have 41 , so I told him not to worry． He was 42 and smiled a row of perfect teeth．
When, two weeks later, I 43 this same boy, I was more aware of my position in Nigerian society． I should 44 this country as the son of a 45 ． But it was hard to find pleasure in a place where it was so 46 to see a little boy who should have been in school selling fruit．
“What’s up?” I asked． He answered in 47 English, “I…I no get money to buy book．” I took out two 500 naira notes． He looked around 48 before sticking his hand into the car 49 the bills． One thousand naira means a lot to a family that 50 only 15,000 each year．
The next morning, security officers told me, “In this place, when you give a little, people think you’re a fountain of opportunity．”51 it’s right, but this happens everywhere in the world． I wondered if my little friend had actually used the money for 52 ． After six months’ work in northern Nigeria, I returned and saw him again standing on the road． “Are you in school now?” He nodded． A silence fell as we looked at each other, and then I 53 what he wanted． I held out a 150 naira note． “Take this．” He shook his head fiercely and stepped back 54 hurt． “It’s a gift．” I said． Shaking his head again, he handed me a basket of bananas and peanuts． “I’ve been waiting to 55 these to you．”

I am a mother of three and have recently completed my college degree. My teacher’s last 21 of the term was called “ Smile”. I am a very friendly person and always 22 at everyone. So I thought this would be very 23.
Soon after we were given the project, my 24 went out to McDonald’s. We were waiting to be 25, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to 26 , and even my husband did. There standing behind me were two homeless men 27 .
As I looked down at the short gentleman with 28 eyes, he said, “Good day.” The second man stood behind his friend. I 29 the second man was mentally challenged(智障) and the blue-eyed gentleman was his helper.
The young 30 at the counter asked him what they wanted.
He said, “Coffee is all, Miss.” Because that was all they could 31 .

It’s never easy to admit you are in the wrong. Being human, we all need to know the art of 31 . Look back with honesty and think how often you’ve judged 32 , said unkind things, pushed yourself ahead at the 33 of a friend. Then count the occasions 34 you indicated clearly and truly that you were 35 . A bit frightening, isn’t it? Frightening because some deep 36in us knows that when even a small wrong has been 37 , some mysterious moral feeling is disturbed; and it stays out of balance until fault is acknowledged and 38 is expressed.
I remember a doctor friend, the late Clarence Lieb, telling me about a man who came to him with a variety of 39 : headaches, insomnia and stomach trouble. No 40 cause could be found. Finally my friend said to the man, “ 41 you tell me what’s worrying you, I can’t help you.” After some 42 , the man confessed that, as executor of his father’s will, he had been 43 his brother, who lived abroad, of his inheritance (继承权). Then and there the wise old doctor made the man write to his brother 44 forgiveness and enclosing a cheque as the first step in restoring their good 45 .
