It's important to learn about protecting our environment. Here is a 5R rule for us:
1.Reduce
If you want to reduce waste, you should use things wisely. Millions of trees are being cut down to make paper. If everyone uses a little paper carelessly and throw it out, soon we would not have any trees left. Other things are also being wasted, and people don't know what to do with the waste in big cities. So it is necessary to reduce the waste
2.Reuse
You should always think of reusing the usable things before throwing them out. Give your clothes you do not use or the ones which are too small to the poor. With a family, you may pass on such clothes to younger brothers or sisters.
3. Recycle
Bottles, cans and paper can easily be recycled. By doing so, we save lots of time and money. For example, coke cans are sent to a factory, where they are smashed flat(压平)and melted(融化)and the melted things are made for new coke cans.
4.Recover
When you buy a box of apples, there may be a few rotten(腐烂的)apples, You have two choices: one is to throw the whole apple away, or you could cut off the rotten parts and eat the good parts. In this way, you are recovering the eatable parts of food.
5. Repair
If one of the legs of your table is broken, you can repair it instead of throwing it away. If you want to change for better ones, It is better for you to sell the old things or give them to other people who can use them after doing some repair. It is true that North America is a "throw-away" society(社会).But the time has come to change our way of life so that we can protect our environment. Every one of us should try our best._______can be recycled.

Scientists have found a new use for children’s imaginations(想象力)—to make Stomachaches go away.
The BBC reports a new study that shows: “Children can be taught to use their Imaginations to deal with stomachaches.” This may be very good news for parents who need a quick cure for their sick children.
Any mother or father understands the stomach problem is one of the most frequent(时常发生的) things their children complain about. Around twenty percent of children suffer from stomachaches that doctors cannot find a reason for.
This new research is especially good for kids with active imaginations. Researchers found that the more creative the child is, the better he or she is at imagining the pain away.
The researchers used a relaxing CD with children. A voice guided them through different fantasy(幻想) situations. One of these was pretending to be floating on a cloud. Thirty children took part in the tests. Half of them used the “guided imagery” method, and the other half received normal medicines. Researchers found 73.3 percent of the CD users reported a reduction in pain. This compared to only 26.7 percent of kids who got normal treatment.
Study leader Dr Miranda Tilburg was very excited about her findings. She believed that it was a very cheap and easy way to stop children’s stomachaches. She said it would not work as well with adults. The new study may be good news for those who____________.
A.have less imaginations |
B.don’t know how to relax |
C.want to stop their kids’ stomachaches in a short time |

C.the normal cure for stomachaches will not be used |
D.a cheap and easy way to stop children’s stomachaches has been found |

C.Children’s imaginations are very active. |
D.How to develop children’s imaginations. |
This is a true story in Guyana. One day, a child took some silver paper from a cigarette box. He rolled it into a tiny ball and pushed it up his nose. He couldn’t get it out again. He ran crying to his mother. His mother couldn’t get the paper out, either. A week later the paper was still in his nose. His nose began to have a bad smell.
So his mother took his child to the hospital. The doctor looked up his nose. She put a tiny steel rod(钢棒) into his nose and felt the paper. She said she would have to cut his nose to get the paper out.
The child’s mother came home looking sad. She didn’t want her child to have his nose cut. He was a handsome boy and the cut would make him ugly.
Next day, the child’s mother took him to her friend Sidney. Sidney lived in a house with an old woman called May. She asked to see the child, so the child let her look up his nose. He closed his eyes.
“Yes, I can see it,” May said. “It will be out soon!”
As she spoke, she shook black pepper on the child’s nose. He gave a mighty sneeze and the paper flew out. His mother was surprised. May told her to take the boy to the sea for a swim. She said the salt water would go up his nose and stop the bad smell.
So the child didn’t have to go to the hospital and gave his nose cut. How did the silver ball go into the boy’s nose?
A.His mother put it into his nose. |

Imagine this: your parents go away on business, but you have to stay at home alone. Would life be as easy as when your parents are around? Would it be a perfect holiday for you?
“I can fill an empty stomach with tomato and egg soup, but that’s all. I think many of my classmates are the same. We wouldn’t know what to do, or how to look after ourselves,” said Zheng Chenyu. “And I’d forget something important. I’d probably watch television and burn the soup. ”
“The moment I leave home, I’ll learn to cook. But now parents do almost everything for us. We’re very lazy,” she said.
Most teenagers have only time for their homework. (1)They don’t learn any life skills until they go to college.

“I think I’d be all right. I wouldn’t just eat sandwiches or fruit. I know how to cook some simple dishes because my mum showed me,” the 13-year-old boy said. In his opinion, many teenagers (2) 过分依赖 their parents, and there is much more to learn than cooking, like tidying up your room or even dressing yourself properly.”
For most teenagers it wouldn’t be a holiday at all.
