How do students spend their spare time after finishing their homework? Watch TV, play computer games, or go outside to relax? Here’s a good example.
Tim and Kerry Meek are both teachers. They live in the UK with their two daughters: eleven-year-old Amy and nine-year-old Ella. Recently, the Meek family has become the focus of the whole country after they completed 100 different outdoor activities in one year.
The Meek couple didn’t want their children to spend all their free time in front of the TV and become “couch tomatoes”. So about one year ago, the Meeks decided that watching TV and playing computer games were not permitted. Instead, they set 100 tasks for the two girls to do outside. Although Mr. and Mrs. Meek are not outdoor activity fans, they took part in all the activities to encourage their daughters. It turns out that the two sisters really had a good time joining activities.
Every holiday and weekend, whether it’s sunny, rainy or snowy, the Meeks’ would go out to try the activities on their list, including hiking, sailing, climbing, skiing, and so on. The two little girls not only had a wonderful time, but also learned a lot of skills from the activities. They were even able to stand up in front of their school to give a talk for charity. “Our friends spend a lot of their free time doing things which are harmful to their health. Luckily, we’ve had the chance to experience something different.” Amy and Ella also helped their parents to draw up a new list of challenges for the next 12 months.
So we should do more outdoor exercise to keep healthy in our spare time.

DNA is the whole "map" of the human body. It is something that all humans have, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the reason that we look like our parents, because we get some of their DNA to make our own.
People have been trying to understand the human body for a long time. In I860, Mr Mendel discovered why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because of small things called "genes"(基因) in our body. In 1953, two scientists, Watson and Crick, found out that those small parts are really messages. They’re written in the DNA with a special language.
In 1961, another two scientists found the first "word" that they could understand in that language. It shows how DNA tells the cell (细胞)to build its parts, the words in the DNA map, but we still do not understand what they all do. By understanding what just one "word" means, we can help to save people from several illnesses. So the more we understand, the more doctors will be able to do.
Most people hope that this will help to make better medicine and help sick people. Other people worry that when we learn more "words" and find out more information, we will use it in the wrong way, just to make people more attractive, or stop sick people getting jobs.

The message was short. I read it three times: “Hey, Mom, can I come to see you?” I wrote back: “Yes!” He said he hoped to make it in time for dinner.
I made a quick run to the market, put sheets on the guest bed and set the TV to record the Warriors’ game, so if traffic was awful, he wouldn’t have to miss the first half. Then I began cooking, cleaning, watching the clock and listening for his footsteps coming up the walk.
It’s called waiting. I’m good at it. When he was a newborn, I’d wait for him to go to sleep. Soon then I’d stand by his bed waiting for him to wake up. I waited, as he learned to do things like walking, talking and feeding himself; throwing a ball, riding a bike and reading a book.
I waited for him to start preschool, primary school, middle school and college.
I waited with dread for him to start driving. And I waited up every time he came home late.
I wait for my son to grow up, but that doesn’t mean the waiting game is over. It never really ends.
Mothers wait for all kinds of reasons—good news or bad, happiness or heartache. But the waiting is soon forgotten, usually, the minute a long awaited child walks through the door.
My boy will be here soon. But if he’s late, I can wait. I’m good at it. And he’s worth(值得) it. I will always leave a light on for him.
After knowing her son would come home, which of the following activities did she do?

D.Visit your mother often

Some city schools have brought WeChat(微信) into the classroom now. Students and teachers communicate by WeChat. Is WeChat good to use in classroom? Here come some different voices from students.

I don’t think we should use WeChat in class. We need to use mobile phones for Wechat. But it is hard for teachers to manage the class. Some students can’t control themselves if they have mobile phones. They will use them to play games or QQ in class. So I think it is not necessary to use WeChat in class.
--Guo Ruiting, 14, Guangdong
I think it’s good for teachers to use Wechat in class. When they raise a question, all students will be glad to answer it on Wechat. They don’t have to raise their hands, but just use the keyboard to note down a few words. And the way helps to relax everyone. It helps us to answer questions as well.
--Zhang Yaoyi, 12, from Shanghai
We used Wechat in class once. It was good. Everyone was excited to see their words on the screen. Some students used to be shy in class. They didn’t speak in class. But everyone was surprised to see them talking a lot on WeChat. So I think it is good for us to use things like Wechat in class.
--Liu Qing, 15, from Zhejiang
We chat is good for class. However, we must use it carefully. When we use it in class, most students are excited to take part in activities and happy to talk about any questions. Surely, teachers are able to manage the time and control the class, or the class must be a little bit messy.
--Sun Jiayang, 13, from JIangsu
