Doctors Say Most Heart Disease Preventable
Heart disease is the number one killer, worldwide, of men and women over the age of 60. But people of all ages die of heart attacks each year. And while death rates have declined in the U.S. and many western European countries, they are on the rise in the developing world.     .
No one would have guessed that Barbara Teng would have a heart attack. She was not overweight. She did not smoke or exercise.“In 2004, the week after I turned 49, when I was on a business trip in Chicago, I had a major heart attack," she said.     . She now exercises daily, and monitors her heart health.
Dr. Patrice Nickens, who is with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, thinks that heart disease is 82 percent preventable. “    ,” she said, “Men are also facing the same problem, and the key to staying healthy is knowing your numbers”.
“Your weight, your blood cholesterol, blood sugar and your blood pressure are important numbers that can help you take action and reduce your risk,” she said.
    .
“And the steps to take are simple: don’t smoke, maintain a healthy weight, exercise, know your numbers and talk to your physician and control these risks,” she said.
African-Americans are at higher-than-average risk for heart disease and stroke; people don't even know they have it, which increases the risk. Medstar Washington Hospital Center is trying to reach this population.     . For example, helping the people monitor their blood pressure. If people realize they are at risk for heart disease, they'll make lifestyle changes: lose weight, exercise, eat the right foods and keep in touch with a doctor

A.A healthy lifestyle can prevent heart disease
B.So we must cure heart disease
C.It is the leading cause of death for women
D.With the right training, they can play an important role in community health

E. And that changed her life
F. Lack of exercise causes heart attacks
G. Yet most heart disease is preventable.

If students in your country are interested in corresponding with Turkish students in English, please tell them to write to my address, so that I can distribute their letters to my students who are willing to have friends and are in need of practice.

Dear Editor,
I am interested in corresponding with other TEFL teachers and researchers about issues of professional development. I would like to share ideas with fellow teachers from English-speaking countries throughout the world. My hobbies are reading, listening to music and watching birds. Since I live in a rather isolated area, I would appreciate any spare copies if text books, teaching materials or journals that other teachers would be able to send me.

Test-taking tips
Do you sweat, check your pencil, and feel butterflies in your stomach as your teacher hands out the test paper? A lot of people feel anxious when it is time to take a test. Here are some tips for taking tests:
1 .Your memory recall will be much better if you have had enough rest. In a scientific study, people who got enough sleep before taking a math test did better than those who stayed up all night studying.
Read the test through first. Once you have the test paper in front of you, read over the entire test, checking out how long it is and all the parts that you are expected to complete. 2 .If something seems unclear before you start, do not panic: ask the teacher.
Focus on addressing each question individually. 3 . Instead, answer the best way you can or skip over the question and come back to it after you have answered other questions.
Relax. 4 .Of course you can not get up and move around in the middle of a test, but you can wiggle (扭动) your fingers and toes, take four or five deep breaths. As we all know, It can be easy to forget things we know well. During a test, if you forget something and start to get tense, it suddenly becomes much more difficult to remember.
Finished already? Although most teachers will let you hand your test paper in early, it is usually a good idea to spend any extra time checking over your work. 5 .On the other hand, if you have 5 minutes until the bell rings and you are still writing, wind up whatever you are working on without panic.

A.Be sure you have studied properly.
B.Get enough sleep the night before the test.
C.This will allow you to decide how much time you have for each section.
D.As you take the test, if you do not know an answer, do not worry about it.
E.As the teacher hands out the test paper, be sure you know what is expected of you.
F.You can also add details that you may not have thought you’d have time for.
G.If you are so nervous that you blank out, you might need a mini-break.

Cheating is when a person misleads, deceives or acts dishonestly on purpose. If a basketball team is for kids under 8,it's cheating for a 9-year-old play on the team. At school, in addition to cheating on a test, a kid might cheat by stealing someone else's idea for a science project. This kind of cheating is called plagiarizing (抄袭).
Jeff is doing it by sneaking answers to a test. And it's also cheating to break the rules of a game or contest or to pretend something is yours when it isn't. When people cheat, it's not fair to other people.
It's tempting(诱惑人的) to cheat because it makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answer on the rest. And it won't help on the next test-unless the person cheats again.
They want to get good grades but hate hard work. Other kids might feel like they can't pass the test without cheating. Even though there seems to be a "good reason" for cheating, cheating isn't a good idea.

A.Some kids cheat because they're lazy.
B.Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways.
C.But it doesn't solve the problem of not knowing the material.
D.Some kids cheat once and feel so bad that they never do it again.

E.For kids, cheating may happen at school, at home, or while playing a sport.
F.There are plenty of reasons why a kid shouldn't cheat, but some kids have already cheated.
G.Kids may also cheat by copying a book report off the Internet and handing it in as it's his or her original work.

Anger is a natural reaction which comes out when we feel that we have not been given a fair treatment. The positive side of this negative emotion is that it has helped us to evolve(逐步形成)as humans and cope in a better manner with our surroundings. However, it tends to become a problem when we fail to control it. Many a time it happens that your anger has hurt others or has spoiled one of your relationships for which you regret later. It has some bad effects on the health, too.
We should control anger so that it does not cause harm to us or to those around us whom we love. One of the best ways to control anger is to get help from others. If you feel that you are unable to manage your anger, it can make you more upset. So tell someone that is close to you, a friend or your father and mother, about your problem. When you discuss a matter with others, there is a better chance of finding a solution to your problem. Besides, there are no better stress relievers than humor. When you feel that it is because of stress that your anger is becoming unmanageable, you can use humor. It can help you look at difficult things in a lighter way and you will feel better about the things around you.
Anger tends to make us have a lot of negative thoughts. Therefore, we have to change the negative thoughts into positive ones. For this you have to first turn all the negative thoughts down that are in your mind one by one. This can be done with a lot of practice. Once you are successful in that, you have to maintain your focus only on the positive things of life.
Meditation (冥想) is an excellent anger management technique. In addition, what we do is disconnect ourselves from the outer world and focus all our attention into the inner world. This helps us develop a sense of controlling our thoughts that tend to cause anger.
