Once a man came to a prophet (预言家)and said, “Oh, prophet I have many bad 40. Which one ofthem should I _41_ first? ”The prophet said, “Give up telling 42_ first and always speakthe truth.”Theman promised to do so and went home.
At night the man was about to go out to steal. Before setting out , he thought for a moment about the 43_he made with the prophet. "44 tomorrow the prophet asks me where I have been, what shall I say? Shall I say that I went out 45? No, I cannot say that. But nor can I lie. Nearly two decades has passed, I still remember my favourite professor, James Sehwartz. Whenever he smiles, it’s as if you’d just been told the funniest joke on earth. Almost all his students are his friends, and almost all his students know his life story.
When James was a teenager, his father 36 him to a fur factory where he worked . This was during the Great Depression. The 37 was to get James a job.
James entered the factory, and immediately felt as if the 38 had closed in around him. The room was dark and hot, the windows covered with dust, and the 39 were packed tightly together, running like trains. The fur hairs were flying, 40a thickened air, and the workers, 41 the pieces of fur together, were bent over their needles 42 the boss marched up and down the rows, searching for them to go faster .James could hardly 43 . He stood next to his father, frozen with fear, hoping the boss wouldn’t 44 at him, too.
During lunch break, his father took James to the boss and pushed him in front of him, 45 if there was any work for his son. But 46 there was hardly enough 47 for the adult labours, for no one would give it up once he took a job.
Thus, for James, it was a 48 . He hated the place. He made a 49 that he kept to the end of his life: he would never do any work that brought 50 to someone else, and he would never allow himself to 51 money off the seat of others.
“What will you do?” his mother, Eva, would ask him.
“I don’t know,” he 52 say. He ruled out law, because he didn’t like 53 , and he ruled out medicine, because he couldn’t take the 54 of blood.
“What will you do?”
55 , my best professor I ever had became—he thought it was the job not to hurt anybody.

I finished my last work of the week and could hardly wait to get home, take off my nursing shoes, and relax.
As I _36_ my car, I saw one of my _37_ standing by the bus stop. I didn’t know where she lived, but I was _40_ I would be able to find my way back.
We _41_ about our work as I drove and _42_ we knew it, we arrived at her house. I started driving back. _43_ looked familiar, but at first that didn’t _44_ me. But soon I _45_ something wrong. I recognized nothing. But I told myself to stay _46_.
I was _47_ neighborhoods, streets and even streetlights. I no longer knew where I was now. How could I be so stupid! I looked down at my _48_. It was now 2:30 a.m. My gas was slowly running out. I _49_ the car and turned off the engine. In total defeat, I put my head down on the wheel, _50_. Then I raised my head and saw a(n) _51_ down the road in front of me. I turned my headlights on. A car! I drove a little _52_, got out of my car and knocked on the window of that car. An elderly man _53_ rolled his window down.
I said that I didn’t know how to get back into town. In silence, he started driving. I ran back to my car and drove behind him. Finally I _54_ a familiar street. As I turned to head home, the car disappeared. Then I _55_ my driveway (车道) when the warning light for my gas tank (汽油箱) turned on.
Though so many years have passed, I still thank the old man from my deepest heart.
