In this modern world, we rush around all day, doing things, talking, sending and reading messages. We are always on, always connected, always thinking, always talking. There is no 36 for stillness.
And when we are 37 to be still because we’re in line for something, or waiting at a doctor’s appointment, or on a bus or train, we often 38 something to do. Some will play with mobile devices, others will read something. Being still isn’t something we’re 39 .
This comes at a 40 : we lose that time for 41 , for observing and listening. We lose peace.
And 42 yet: sometimes too much action is worse than no action at all. You can run around crazily, but get 43 done.
Take a moment to think about 44 you spend your days. Are you constantly rushing around? Are you constantly reading and answering 45 or checking on the news and the latest stream of information? Are you always 46 through your schedule?
Is this how you want to spend your 47 ? If so, peace be with you. If not, take a moment to be 48 . Don’t think about what you have to do, or what you’ve done already. 49 be in the moment.
Then after a minute or two of doing that, consider your life, and how you’d 50 it to be. See your life with less movement, less doing, less rushing. See it with more stillness, more consideration, more 51 .
Then be that vision.
It’s pretty simple: all you have to do is sit still for a little bit each day. 52 you’ve gotten used to that, try doing less each day. Breathe when you feel yourself moving too 53 . Slow down. Find happiness now, in this moment, instead of 54 for it.
55 the stillness. It’s a treasure, and it’s available to us, always.

High school seems bigger. There are 36 kids and it’s a totally new environment. It could be a 37 time for new students, 38 ,in fact, it isn’t really that bad.
The first day of course is always terrifying, but, then again, the first day of middle school was probably the 39 .Of course you might get lost during the first few days 40 your classes, but after a while what seems like a large school really isn’t.
One thing that’s really cool about high school is that there are so many more classes that you can 41 .For example, if you like 42 ,there are many art classes. While I studied at school, I felt great difficulty in learning my Latin translations. I was always very 36 in using a dictionary, and 37 it most difficult, while to other boys it seemed no 38 .
I formed an alliance(盟友) with a boy in the Sixth Grade. He was very clever and 39 read Latin as easily as English. My friend for his part was almost as 40 troubled by the English essays he had to write for the headmaster as I was 41 these Latin words. We agreed together that he should 42 me my Latin translations and that I should do his essays. The arrangement 43 wonderfully. The headmaster seemed quite 44 with my work, and I had more time to myself in the morning. On the other hand, once a week 45 I had to compose the essays of my friend. For several months no difficulty 46 , but once we were nearly caught out.
One afternoon, the headmaster 47 my friend to discuss one essay with him in a lively spirit. “I was interested in this 48 you make here. I think you might have gone further. Tell me 49 you had in your mind.” The headmaster continued in this 50 for some time to fear of my friend. It was 4 o'clock in the morning when I received the phone call.
“This is the emergency room calling and your son was just 41 in with severe burns on his face, neck and arms.We have called for a(n) 42 and are going to fly him to the burn unit in Seattle.” Seattle was 350 miles from his college,so we knew immediately this was 43
The doctor described the 44 ,which caused the burns. At 6 am,our son and his friends decided to barbecue hamburgers in the courtyard of their apartment. When they 45 the charcoal(木炭),it burst into flames because they had sprayed too much gasoline(petrol). The flames 46 my son’s shirt tail and shot from his waist to well over his head.
47 ,one of the boys was quick-minded,grasped my son,and 48 him on the grass. While it saved his life,it was not in 49 to save him from severe burns and the terrible scars(伤疤).
After he 50 from the treatments, the doctors told him they would not do plastic surgery(整容)for 6 months 51 it takes that long for the skin to stop shrinking and wrinkling. So,he had to return to college with scars typical of severe burns.
When I was a child, my mother told my sister, who had a 10-inch, very 52__ scar on her arm,“Nancy,if you ignore the scar, other people will ignore it.It does not mean they will not 53 it,but it means it will not matter to them if it doesn’t matter to you.’’
I 54 this wisdom on to my son.He took my advice to 55 and returned to school with his head held high--glad he was alive.
By the end of the six-month waiting period,he decided that the scars did not 56 , so he made the 57 to give up any plastic surgery.
We all have “scars” that we believe 58 people to keep away from us.And we spend a lot of time thinking that if only we looked different,or dressed differently, people would like us better.
But you see, people will only judge you by your looks,or your clothes,if you are judging yourself by these same 59 standards.Put your imperfections out of your mind and concentrate on what you value 60 yourself, and your beauty will shine through.
