English is very important in the modern world. Many people want to learn it well. Here are some things that I want to say about learning it.
To learn English well, you need two things-passion and good learning methods (方法). Passion is the more important one. Why? Because passion makes you want to learn English. Learning methods only tell you how to learn it better and faster.

When you don’t want to learn English, you can do the following things.
First, imagine that you can talk to native speakers just as you talk in your mother language. Imagine yourself to be a manager in a foreign company. Imagine you’re living in an English-speaking country.
Second, use English as much as possible. This is very important. The more you use English, the better you’ll learn it. English is very popular, so you can use it everywhere. You can watch American cartoons, write English diaries, and read interesting books written in English.

Do you want to know how and why a fall leaf changes color? We first have to understand what leaves are and what they do.
Leaves are the world’s food factories. Plants take water from the ground through their roots and take CO2 from the air. Plants use sunlight to turn water and CO2 into glucose(葡萄糖), a kind of sugar. Plants use it as food for energy and growing.
A chemical called “chlorophyll” in the leaves gives plants their green colour. As summer ends and autumn comes, the days get shorter and shorter, and trees “know” to begin getting ready for winter.
During winter, there is not enough sunlight or water. Trees rest during this time and live on the food they store during the summer. They begin to shut down their food-making factories. As the green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves, we begin to see yellow and orange leaves.
The bright reds and purples we see in leaves are made mostly in autumn. In some trees, like maples, sunlight and the cool nights of autumn turn the glucose in the leaves into a red colour. And we can enjoy the beautiful red leaves during autumn.

Which should be in the box?

Chris is not a traditional explorer(探险者) ----he usually works in an office for a large organization(组织机构). Yet his job can sometimes be as exciting and dangerous as being an explorer.
Chris works for MSF, an organization also known as Doctors Without Borders(无国界医生). MSF sends trained doctors all over the world to help people after a war or a disaster(灾难). Chris is a doctor from France who has travelled to many places to organize programmes that help people.
At present, there are over 27,000 trained medical staff taking part in MSF projects and tasks(任务). The organization received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. All kinds of doctors can volunteer for MSF. They need to be prepared to go almost anywhere in the world and ,of course, they should expect difficult conditions. Doctors with experience in tropical(热带的) diseases are especially useful because most of MSF’s work is in Africa. When MSF accepts a doctor for a task, he has to go for at least six months. When doctors have completed a few tasks, they might be sent on an emergency task(紧急任务) following a disaster, such as an earthquake.
But why would a doctor leave a comfortable life and a good salary(薪水) to join MSF? According to Chris, the experience you get is a great help in your profession. Besides, just like the explorers of the past, you need to keep an open mind and learn to mix well with the people you meet. Most importantly, at the end of each task, you have made a real difference to people’s lives.

How many medical staff are taking part in MSF projects and tasks?
What kind of doctors are greatly needed in Africa?
Why is an MSF doctor’s job exciting and dangerous as well?

Life is like a train ride. We get on. We ride. We get off. We get back on and ride some more. There are accidents and there are delays(延误).At certain stops, there are surprises. Some of these will change into great moments of joy; some will result in bad results.
When we are born and we first get on the train, we meet people who we think will be with us for the whole journey. Those people are our parents. Sadly, this is far from the truth. Our parents are with us when we completely need them. They, too, have journeys they must complete. We live on with the memories of their love, support and so on.
There are others who get on the train and who finally become very important to us. These people are our brothers, sisters and friends, whom we will learn to love and take care of.
Some people regard their journey as a pleasant tour. They will just go happily along. Others will encounter many upsets, tears and losses(失落)on their journey. Some others will stay on to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.
Some people on the train will leave a deep impression(印象) when they get off. Some will get on and get off the train so quickly that they will hardly leave a sign.
We will sometimes be upset that some passengers, whom we love, will choose to sit in another compartment(车厢) and leave us to travel on our own. Then again, there’s nothing that says we can’t look for them anyway. But when we find them, we may not even be able to sit next to them because that seat will already be taken.
That’s okay… everyone’s journey will be filled with hopes, dreams, challenges, difficulties and goodbyes.
When we first get on the train, the people we meet are our ________.

A.parents B.brothers
C.sisters D.friends

The underlined word “encounter” in Paragraph4 probably means “_____”.

A.collect B.expect
C.experience D.imagine

A.Nothing will happen to some people on the train.
B.Some people on the train won’t offer a helping hand.

Which of the following is NOT true?

A.Some people will just go on their journey happily all the way.
B.Parents are the people who will be with us for the whole journey.
