Heroes come in different forms. They are the people who save lives and the people who can stand 36 times. My hero is my mother. When she was diagnosed(诊断)with breast cancer, I was 37 . I didn’t understand how she could appear so healthy 38 a deadly disease existed inside.
My mother went 39 a mastectomy(乳房切除手术)to remove the cancerous cells. For a month after her surgery (外科手术) she was unable to do anything.
It was after this surgery that my mother 40 me the most. Her inactivity really made her frustrated (沮丧), but she never 41 . She is a strong woman. Unlike some, she never 42 why she had got cancer. Instead, she 43 it and remained optimistic(乐观的).
44 my mother’s illness, I had to step in to do the housework. Previously I would have 45 not to, but I knew this was my 46 .
Those weeks passed slowly but in the end I had a new 47 for my mom. I had never 48 all the things she does on a regular basis. Simple things like cleaning, cooking, laundry and bills really started to become great 49 .
During this special period, I saw the amazing supportive group we have. My parents’ friends couldn’t have done 50 .They stopped by on a regular basis, cooked meals, and supplied us with anything we 51 .They let me know that we will always be there 52 each other.
My mother is healthier now and back to her 53 activities. Our lives are busy but I am a little more willing to 54 around the house. I 55 my mother’s ability to stay optimistic and I only hope that some day I can be lucky enough to be like her.

A friend of mine met with an accident driving in darkness. His legs were so hurt that he couldn’t move. What was the 1 was that he found himself unable to ask for help—his mobile phone went out of 2 as a result of exhausted battery (无电) . Nothing could be done but to 3 in cold wilderness (荒野). It was eight hours later that day broke, and then 4 of the rescue (援救).
It is almost 5 that he could stand (忍受)the horror in the darkness for so long. Even more surprising was his 6 : “First of all, I checked up my 7 conditions and found myself not in mortal (致命的) danger. As there was no 8 to call for help, I leaned back in my seat trying my best to keep the wound from 9 . In this way I dozed (瞌睡) off.”
His story put an end to my regret (遗憾) for the 10 of an exploration adventure (探险) that happened last year. A group of young men 11 to explore a mountain cave and got lost. 12 to find a way out in the dark cave they were frightened and ran anxiously without a sense of 13 . Finally they felt dead in fear and exhaustion. According to the 14 people that found them, the place where they got lost was only about 10 meters away from the 15 of the cave. If they stayed on the spot when they lost their way and tried to 16 themselves, they would probably sense a faint light glimmering (闪烁) not far away.
Don’t you think you can compare it with 17 itself? When you meet with difficulty in life and work, you are lost in darkness. 18 you it’s unclear yet and you needn’t put up struggle 19 . It seems to be a negative (消极)attitude, 20 a person who can afford to do so must have foresight (远见) as well as a great courage in the first place.

I was doing some last-minute Christmas shopping in a toy store. A nicely dressed little girl was looking through the teddy bears beside her father 38 she saw a little boy walk in and stop in front of the Pokémon toys. His jacket was obviously too small. He had money in his hand. 39 , it looked no more than five dollars at most. He was with his father as well, and 40 picking up the Pokémon video games. Each time he showed one to his father, his father 41 his head, “No”.
Rather 42 , the boy gave up the video games and chose a book of stickers 43 . After they walked away, the little girl ran over to the Pokémon video games. She excitedly picked up one 44 on top of the others, and hurried down toward the check-out. I picked up my purchases(购买物) and 45 the girl and her father.
Then, much to the little girl’s 46 , the little boy and his father got in line behind her and me. After the video was paid for and bagged, the little girl 47 it back to the cashier(收银员) and 48 something to her. The cashier smiled and put the 49 under the counter(柜台). I was putting things in my bag when the little boy came up to the cashier. The cashier said, “Congratulations. You’re my hundredth customer today, and you win a prize!” and she handed the boy the Pokémon game. The boy could only 50in disbelief. It was, he said, exactly what he had wanted! The little girl and her father had been standing at the doorway, and I saw the biggest and prettiest smile on that little girl I have ever seen in my life.
I suddenly understood that the world is not 51 into the strong who care and the 52 who are cared for. We must each in turn care and be cared.
