Whenever we hear about “the homeless”, most of us think of the Developing World. But the is that homelessness is everywhere. For example, how many of us would expect to see people living on the streets of a developed country like Germany?
Kurt Muller and his wife Rita have spent eleven years making for the homeless of Berlin, the capital of Germany. They first doing that during a long hot summer when most Germans were on holiday. Kurt and his wife stayed at home, made sandwiches, a table in the street and gave food to the homeless.
The Mullers soon realized that food and clothing weren’t . “What these people also need is warmth and ,” says Rita. The Mullers were always willing to give their phone number to the street people and told them to phone anytime. Rita there was somebody at home to answer the phone and their home was always to anyone who couldn’t face another night on the street.
The couple were soon all their time and money, so Kurt visited food and clothing companies to donations. Today, over thirty companies regularly donate food and other goods to the cause and volunteers help to them to the homeless. The public also give clothes and money and a shoe producer even gives away new shoes.
Kurt and Rita receive no payment for their hard work. “We feel like parents,” says Rita, “and parents shouldn’t money for helping their children. The love we get on the streets is our salary.” Though Rita says she often gets , she says she will continue with her work because she likes the feeling of having made a in the world.

One afternoon I took a trip to an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was expecting a view of the masterpieces(名作).
A young couple looking at the in front of me chatted non-stop. I watched them for a moment and realized the wife was doing all the talking. I admired(佩服)this man for being so with her. Bored by their noise, I moved on.
I met them several times as I moved those rooms of art. Each time I heard her voice, I moved away quickly.
I was standing at the museum gift shop buying some cards when the couple walked to the exit(出口).
" He's a brave man, " the clerk said. "Most of us would our interests if we were blind at such a young age. But behind his wife he comes in there's a new art show. "
"But he can't see. " I said in surprise.
" His wife each painting so that he can see it in his head. "
I learned about patience, courage and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person withoutsightand the courage of a husband who would not allow blindness to change his . And I saw the love shared by two people as I this couple walk away holding each other's hands.

“Mommy, look!” cried my daughter, Darla, pointing to a chicken hawk in the air.
“Uh huh,” I answered, driving, lost in thought about the timetable of my day.
filled her face.
“What’s the matter, sweetheart?” I asked.
“Nothing,” my seven-year-old daughter said. The moment was gone.
Dinner, baths and phone calls the hours until bedtime.
“Come on, Darla, time for bed!” She raced past me up the stairs. Tired, I kissed her and tucked her in.
“Mom, I forgot to give you something!” she said.
“Give it to me in the morning.” I said. My was gone. I could hardly stay cool.
“You won’t have time in the morning!” she talked back quickly.
“I’ll take time,” I answered. Sometimes no matter how hard I tried, time was never enough.
She wasn’t ready to up yet. “No, you won’t! It will be just like today when I told you to look at the chicken hawk. You didn’t listen to what I said.”
I was too tired to argue; she hit too to the truth. “Good night!” I shut her door in anger.
Later though, her gray-blue eyes filled my vision as I thought about how little time we really had until she was grown and gone. My husband asked me what was going on and I told him.
“Maybe she was not asleep yet. Why don’t you ?” he said.
I followed his advice, it was my own idea. I opened her door gently. In Darla’s hand I could see her paper all crumpled (弄皱的) up. She had torn into small pieces a big red heart with a poem she had written titled, “Why I Love My Mother?”
Why I Love My Mother
Although you’re busy, and you work so hard,
You always take time to play with me,
I love you Mommy,
Because I am the biggest part of your busy day!
Tears filled my eyes. When I softly touched her face, she awakened from a dreamless sleep and asked, “Why are you , Mommy?”
“You ARE the most important part of my busy day!”
She smiled and then went back to sleep, not really understanding how strongly I what I said.
