Good afternoon, everyone,
I’d like to introduce my friend Christy to you all. Christy is a great example of how one person with 1 can make her dream a reality, so she should win the Student of the Year Award.
Christy loves to ride bikes. She does not just ride along city streets, 2 . She is interested in 3 trail (小路) rides. 4 Christy knew that people who love riding had to travel 5 the city to locate good bike trails, so she 6 to do something.
Christy knew that Roosevelt Park had a clean, lively creek(小溪)7 through it. 12 miles of land around the creek was 8 used. Christy decided to get together with other trail9 to ask the city council to 10 a bike path along the unused land. Christy 11 a petition (请愿书). She and other riders asked all of their biking friends if they would12 the list, and they gathered 300 signatures. The city council evaluated the 13 and, more 14 , agreed to allow the bike trail.
The 15 took two months of work, and now Roosevelt Park has a 16 bike trail. It has many ups and downs; it is a great ride. This trail is becoming one of the community’s important 17 spots. I can’t 18 with Christy when we ride together, but I am glad that she decided to work hard to begin the 19 of the Roosevelt Park bike path. Christy 20 this award because she acted on her dream, causing a community to come together.
Thank you!

For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A,B, C and D. Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.
When I was a college student, I did a lot of travelling abroad. That was because a professor 50 me to do so. She said,“Now is the time for you to travel around the world, 51 your knowledge through actual experiences and have fun!” I agreed with her.
Since I started to work for a 52 company, however, I have done most of my travellling through the Internet. By using the Internet, I have seen the sights of many cities on my computer screen. And I have really made business 53 , too. With the help of the Internet, I have also got 54 about food in different countries.
Therefore, I was beginning to feel that actual trips were 55 necessary when I happened to read a famous chef’s comment on the Internet. He said,“It is very difficult to have real Italian food in a foreign country, because we enjoy food and the atmosphere around us at the same time. So why don’t you fly over to Italy and enjoy real Italian 56 ?” Those words reminded me of my 57 advice. As information technology 58 ,you might be able to do without making some real trips. But this also means that you will miss the various 59 you can get from travelling.
Today there are people who 60 direct communication with others and spend much of their time on the Internet. It is not surprising to see a group of people 61 not with each other but into their micro phones. It seems as if such people are 62 by an invisible wall. They seem to be losing out on a good chance to 63 and talk with other people. I do not think that they are taking good advantage of information technology. We should use information technology as a tool to make our daily communication more fruitful. However, we should never let it 64 our time for face-to-face communication. Let’s make use of information technology more wisely, and have great fun in experiencing the actual world.

Face adversity(逆境 )with a smile
I told my friend Graham that I often cycle the two miles from my house to the town centre but unfortunately there is a big hill on the route. He 36 , "You mean fortunately." He explained that I should be glad of the 37 exercise that the hill provided.
My 38 to the hill has now changed.I used to 39 as I approached it but now I tell myself the following. This hill will exercise my heart and lungs. It will help me to 40 and get fit.It will mean that I live longer. This hill is my friend. 41 , I have a smile of 42 as I reach the top of the hill.
Problems are there to be faced and 43.We cannot achieve anything with a/an 44 life.Helen Keller was the first deaf and blind person to 45 an University degree. She wrote, "Character cannot be 46 in ease and quiet.Only through 47 of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved."
One of the main 48 of success in life is our attitude towards adversity. At times we all face hardships, problems, accidents and difficulties. 49 we cannot choose the adversity, we can choose our attitude towards it.
Douglas Bader was 21 when in 1931 he had both legs amputated(截肢)following a flying accident. He was 50 to fly again and went on to become one of the leading flying aces.He was a/an 51 to others during the war.He said, "Don't listen to anyone who tells you that you can't do this or that. That's nonsense. 52 your mind, you'll never 53 crutches(拐杖)or a stick, then have a go at everything.Go to school, join in all the games you can.Go 54 you want to.But never, never let them 55 you that things are too difficult or impossible."
