According to a new survey. Students’ safety has become a big problem. Nearly 50% of students say they are worried about robbery (抢劫) on the way to and from school. Now in some big cities in China, some schools have taught an unusual lesson: self-protection. Students like this lesson because there are no exams or boring classes. And they can learn how to save lives and know how to stop danger before it really happens.
Chen Haoyu, a teacher at Beijing No 25 Middle School gives young students advice on how to deal with danger:
If you are robbed
Keep calm. If you cannot cry for help or run away, give the robber your money. Try to remember what the robber looks like and tell the police later.
If you are in a traffic accident.
If a car hits you,you should remember the car number. If it is a bicycle, try to call your parents before you let the rider go. This is because you don't know how badly you are hurt.
If it is raining hard and there is lighting. (闪电)
Don’t stay in high places and stay away from trees.
When there is a fire.
Run away as fast as you can. Put wet things on your body and try to find an exit. Do not take the lift.
If someone is drowning(溺水)
If you can’t swim, don’t get into the water. Cry out for help.

Last month the manager of a jewelry shop received a letter. As he was very busy then, the letter lay on his desk till tea-time. He opened it and a 10-pound note(票) fell out onto the desk. Within the note was a letter which said:
Dear sir:
In 1935 I got engaged(订婚). But unfortunately I lost my job. At the time a lot of people were out of work. Six months later I got a job again, but of course I was very short of money. I came to your shop to buy a wedding ring(婚戒). The assistant took out some rings for me to look at, but she was called away for a moment, and I put one of the rings in my pocket. When she came back, I said I didn’t know the size of my girl’s finger. So I left the shop without buying a ring. My wife died a short while ago and the fact that I never paid for the ring has been heavy in my heart all these years. At that time, the ring cost 2 pounds so I think it is 10 pounds at today’s price and I’m sending 10 pounds.

There are many things we need to know that we do not learn at school. For example, if we want to use our money wisely(智慧地), we need to shop carefully. We need to know how to compare the prices of the thing in different shops. We need to be able to compare the quality of different brands(品牌). We need to know how to make a choice(选择) when we shop.
Knowing how to make such choices is a “life skill”, and we need these skills if we want to live useful and happy lives.
Some of these choices are small. For example, will I take an apple for lunch or a pear? Will I go to school by bus or on foot? Will I wear the red T-shirt or the blue one to the movies? Other choices are more important. For example, will I eat healthy food for lunch or will I eat junk food because it is nicer? Will I work hard in all my classes or will I only work hard in the classes I enjoy? We make choices like this every day.
We have to realize that the choices we make can affect(影响) the rest of our lives. Just as importantly, our choices can also affect other people. The next time you decide to waste time in class, play a joke on someone or talk loudly at the movies, think about this: Who else does your choice affect? This passage mainly tells us that it’s important to _____________.

These days, I’m surprised at what my classmates have changed since school started. It’s not just the new teachers, new buildings, or new rules. I also notice how people are dressing differently. Dressing is not just a choice to keep warm. It’s also a healthy personal choice in so many ways.
Dress rules: Many schools have dress rules. They tell students what to wear at school. The teachers don’t hope to see their students wear unsuitable clothes in the classroom.
Self-respect: The way we dress shows the way we feel about ourselves. If we aren’t confident or need lots of attention, we’ll often dress in ways that help us get that attention. If you want to get attention in a healthy way, you don’t need to dress in an interesting way to express your mind.
Body image(形象): If some kids look very bad or ugly, dressing properly(正确地) can cover them. And it can also help them feel beautiful and comfortable among their friends.
Being what you wear: Dressing is important. Dressing in a wrong way can make people mistake(误解)you. People like to judge according to what they see. Clothing can often give people a wrong idea. The writer feels very ____________ because of the way his classmates dress these days.
