I hadn’t even got a chance to enter the store before an African American woman approached me and asked if I would help her return an item. The item she has ___ __ was intended for her daughter, but she had already received a similar one. The lady ___ __ to exchange the item for something else in the store but she was told she needed an ID or the deal could not take place.
I went to the __ __ with the woman so we could use my ID. The sales associate immediately started ___ ___ her of asking the first random person she saw to help her. Although that was true , I didn’t understand why it mattered. After all, not everyone is given the opportunity to __ __ an ID in this country.
Then, we asked to speak with a manager, who explained that there was no way to return the item without a receipt and then went on to say the woman could not ___ ___ she purchased the item.
“If I , a young white female, were to enter the store and request you to make an exchange without a receipt, I would not be ___ __ the privilege--- as I have proof from the past.” I said. He must have realized at that moment what he had done, because he ___ __ to exchange the item.
There are many valuable lessons in the story. The first is to help a stranger in need. I hesitated when the woman asked for my help, but ___ ___ in my hand I asked myself, “ Why not? What valid reasons do I usually have?” I had none, so I helped her.
The second lesson is not to judge a book by its cover. The woman looked poor, but she ___ __ the same treatment as anyone else does.

Just Help the Next Person
The only highway to go to work that we had to drive was closed down due to an accident on the bridge. A truck had hit the bridge and made it 36 for any traffic to go over it. So in order to get to 37 I had to go a number of miles out of my way.
Not being that 38 with this road and not knowing 39 all the pot holes in the road were, I topped a hill and right in my path was a big pot hole. I felt and heard the familiar sound of a flat tire. I 40 as far to the right as possible and stopped. I tried several times to change the tire, but 41 .
There I sat out in the country and no way to 42 with anybody. Just then, I looked in my rear view mirror and a 43 was pulling out of a pasture behind me. I was 44 and scared at the same time.
I was struggling to get the 45 out when this man in the pickup pulled in behind me. He got out to introduce himself and 46 to help me. When he got the spare out we discovered that the spare is also 47 . He told me he would take the tire and have it 48 and call my husband.
We got the tire fixed 49 he took me back to my car. My husband was there 50 us when we got back. The kind stranger stayed there and helped my husband 51 the tire. After they finished we 52 thanked him and offered to pay him for his 53 .
I will never forget his words, " your thanks is 54 enough pay and I just hope if this ever happens to my wife or daughter someone will be so 55 as to help them."

I write for a big newspaper, and I wanted to37a story about parachute jumping(跳伞). To make it a realistic as well as exciting38 , I decided that I had to make a jump myself39 . Unluckily, I’m not good at any40 , let alone(更不用说)parachute jumping.
My friend Mr. Smith was willing to give me a41 . He took me to a ground school. The first day’s42 included several hours of instruction but not my first drop from a(n) 43 . For this, I had to wait until the following44 .
The next morning, I was taken to the airfield.45 , a heavy parachute was put on my back. Then I was46 to make my way to a small plane which had just stopped slowly on the runway. Once on board, the plane was soon47 . I began to feel nervous. As we reached one thousand meters, Harry, my teacher, hooked(钩)a48 from my parachute to a steel ring inside the plane. The line was to pull my parachute 49 after I jumped.
“Get50 , Henry,” Harry said. I moved carefully to the door. I wanted to51 , “NO, no, no!” But no word came.
“Jump!” Harry called52 . “Jump!”
Away from the plane, and down, down I fell, arms stretched. It worked All at once I was very happy. Then I felt a quick53 . My big parachute had opened! It was the best54 I ever had. I looked down. There were rivers, trees, fields and houses. I heard the soft sound of the air. This was55 .
