Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. The building next door was only a few feet away from mine. There was a woman who lived there, whom I had never met, yet I could see her seated by her window each afternoon, sewing or reading.
After several months had gone by, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear through the dirty window. I would say to myself, "I wonder why that woman doesn't wash her window. It really looks terrible."
One bright morning I decided to clean my flat, including washing the window on the inside.
Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for a rest. What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible. Her window was clean!
Then it dawned on me. I had been criticizing (批评) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching hers through my own dirty window.
That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at and criticized others through the dirty window of my heart, through my own shortcomings?
Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (评判) someone, I asked myself first, "Am I looking at him through my own dirty window?"
Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world about me more clearly. The writer couldn't see everything clearly through the window because_____.
A.the woman's window was dirty |
B.the writer's window was dirty |
C.the woman lived nearby |

The writer was surprised that_____.
A.the woman was sitting by her window |

It's clear that _____.
A.the writer had never met the woman before |
B.the writer often washed the window |
C.they both worked as cleaners |
D.they lived in a small town |
From the passage, we can learn ______.
A.one shouldn't criticize others very often |
B.one should often make his windows clean |
C.one must judge himself before he judges others |
D.one must look at others through his dirty windows |
I will always remember my mother’s last few days in this world.
On February 14th, 2000, my class went on a field trip to the beach. I had so much fun. When we returned to school, my teacher told me to go to the headmaster’s office. When 1 got into the office, 1 saw a police officer. Suddenly I realized something was wrong. The police officer told what had happened and we went to pick my sister up. After that, we went to the hospital and waited. Time went slowly. Finally, we got to see our mother. It was terrible.
On the next day, the headmaster came and told my two teachers what had happened. I was taking a test that day. I knew it had something to do with my mother. I kept thinking that she either died or had gotten better. How I wished that she had gotten better. When my teacher took me outside, my sister ran up to me .She started crying, “She’s gone. Teresa, mommy’s gone. She’s dead.” I couldn’t believe it. We Jumped into the car and drove straight to the hospital. Most of my family were there. We went inside her hospital bedroom. We all stayed around her bed without any noise. The silence was terrible. I knew I had to say goodbye.
Today when I look back, I still miss my mother very much, but I know that I will live. My mother was a strong mother, who had the biggest heart. My mother was an angel walking on the earth. I will always remember her as living. When someone is asked who their hero is, they usually say someone famous, like Michael Jordan or Britney 5pears. When someone asks me who my hero is, I tell them, my mother. My mother lives every day. That is what makes her a true hero. Where was the writer when she learned her mother was very ill?

Earth Day is April 22 and we’ll tell you some Earth Day activities for your kids.
Show how plants drink water
Fill a glass with water and add a bright colour of food colouring(食物色素). Then place a long stemmed(长茎的)white carnation(康乃馨) in the coloured glass of water. Each day. Watch as the white carnation changes into the same colour as the food colouring. Children can see that plants drink water and where the water goes, and this is a favourite Earth Day activity for kids.
Leaf collection
This Earth Day project is fun and easy to do. First, take a walk in the field and children can collect lots of leaves. When collection is complete, kids can place the leaves in between two pages of white paper and then put them together to make a leaf book.
Feed the birds
Here you will find an exciting Earth Day activity that helps animals, especially birds. Find or purchase a large pinecone(松果). Cover the pinecone with butter and bread. Hang the homemade bird feeder on a tree near a window and watch the birds come to have their dinner.
Clean the park
There are many organized events in towns and cities for clean-up activities on Earth Day. But if one is not offered in your town or city, you can do some clean-up just by yourself in the local park.
