We go to school every day to become a better person. So how can we become powerful and start changes in our own life? Perhaps we can get tips from the US First Lady Michelle Obama. During her visit to China, from March 20–26, Mrs Obama shared her views on education with students.
The first lady encouraged Chinese students to aim high and get a good education. In Chengdu No 7 High School, she told students that having poor roots doesn’t matter as long as you have perseverance (毅力).
Mrs Obama said her family was not rich. Like many Chinese students, her parents had big dreams for her. She felt the weight of her parents’ sacrifices (牺牲) on her shoulders and worked hard to make them proud.
Persevering was not easy, though. Sometimes she had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. and study late into the night. “But whenever I got tired or discouraged… I would remember something my mother always told me. She said: ‘A good education is something that no one can take away from you.’”
Mrs Obama also encourages Chinese students to study abroad. “As the Chinese saying goes: It is better to travel 10,000 miles than to read 10,000 books,” she said. It’s not enough to get good grades in school. It’s also important to have real experience with languages, cultures and societies different from your own, she noted.
Studying abroad could also gain future international relations. It could help young people from different countries work together to deal with problems such as climate change, Mrs Obama said.

I was driving home on a very hot afternoon and about to near a crossing（十字路口）. One of the major traffic light had gone out , and a police officer was standing in the middle of around twenty lanes of very busy traffic . The fact was that he had no hat or shade（遮棚）to shield（保护）him from the burning sun but , he was upbeat and doing a fabulous（出色的）job .

I knew that he might not be able to take it – he wouldn’t have hands to hold it since he was busy making motions（动作）to direct（指挥）the traffic – but I had to try .
I drove into the crossing , rolled down my windows as I passed the officer , and gave him the bottle of water . Though he wasn’t able to take the bottle , he broke into a smile and said , “ Thank you . ”
I drove home , feeling better for having persisted（坚持）. And I was even inspired to call the station that afternoon to make sure they knew what a great job he did that day . It felt good to spread（传播）the positivity（正能量）, and it was the least I could do . Why did the police officer direct the traffic in this heat（温度）?

The street food stands（摊）are very popular in Korea . They take their name from the two kinds of hot foods they sell : Dukbokgi and Odeng .
Dukbokgi is a spicy hot food made of rice cakes and some vegetables . These rice cakes are finger-shaped . They are white , and they are about ten centimeters in length（长度）. They are mixed with sliced vegetables in a pan with a spicy red dressing（调料）. Fifteen minutes later , they are ready to eat . Odeng is made of ground fish . It comes in many shapes : some are square（正方形）, others are round , and still others are stick style . You can buy big or small ones .
