All residents: Rules for living in Parkrise Flats
We all want to live comfortably and safely here, so here are a few simple rules which we think all residents should follow.
Rubbish
Rubbish collection is on Tuesdays. Please do not leave rubbish bags out before Tuesday as birds and animals can break into them and they smell.
Washing
There is a washing line for every flat in the garden next to the car park. Please only dry your washing on these lines so it does not disturb(干扰)people in the ground floor flats.
Cleaning
The main stairs are cleaned twice a week by the Association, so please try to keep them tidy and clean and do not leave furniture or bags on the stairs or in the hallways.
Lights
The main lights are on a timer and they stay on for five minutes whey you press them. Please tell the Association if any lights are not working.
Noise
Residents are asked to keep noise to a minimum. Loud music, etc. can disturb other people and the Association will get in touch with you if you make too much noise.
Safety
Make sure the main outside door is always locked and do not let anyone in to the main building unless you know who they are. Sometimes people try to get in to the main stairs and then break into flats, so do not let people in unless they are coming to see you.
Parking
Each flat has one car parking space. These are numbered and are at the back of the building. Do not use another resident's space. If you have more than one car you will have to park it on the road. Do not park where you are blocking entrances.
Problems
If you have any problems or questions, please call the Association at 0800 096 9000.

We know that many animals do not stay in one place. Birds, fish and other animals move from one place to another at a certain time. They move for different reasons: most of them move to find food more easily, but others move to get away from places that are too crowded.
When cold weather comes, many birds move to warmer places to find food. Some fishes give birth in warm water and move to cold water to feed. The most famous migration (迁移) is probably the migration of fish, which is called “salmon”. This fish is born in fresh water but it travels many miles to salt water. There it spends its life. When it is old, it returns to its birthplace in fresh water. Then it gives birth and dies. In northern Europe, there is a kind of mouse. They leave their mountain homes when they become too crowded. They move down to the low land. Sometimes they move all the way to the seaside, and many of them are killed when they fall into the sea.
Recently (近来), scientists have studied the migration of a kind of lobster (龙虾). Every year, when the season of the bad weather arrives, the lobsters get into a long line and start to walk across the floor of the ocean. Nobody knows why they do this, and nobody knows where they go. So, sometimes we know why humans and animals move from one place to another, but at other times we don’t. Maybe living things just like to travel.
Most animals move from one place to another at a certain time to _______.

A.give birth B.find food more easily
C.enjoy warmer weather D.find beautiful places

The mice in northern Europe move when _______.

A.they give birth
B.they haven’t enough food
C.the weather is bad
D.the place gets too crowded

What is the main idea of the passage?

A.Animals move to find food more easily.
B.The migration of the fish called “salmon” is the most famous migration.
C.Sometimes we know why and how living things move from one place to another, but sometimes we don’t.
D.Living things move from one place to another because they like to travel.

It’s hard to make friends if you stay at home alone all the time. Get out of the house and do things that will put you in touch with other people. It’s easier to make friends when you have the same interests.
Don’t be afraid to show people what you are really good at. Talk about the things you like and do best. People will be interested in you if there is something interesting about you.
Look at people in the eyes when you talk to them. That way, they will find it easier to talk to you. If don’t, people may think you are not interested in them and may stop being interested in you.
Listen carefully. Let people talk about themselves before talking about ‘me, me, me’. Ask lots of questions. Show interest in their answers.
Try to make friends with the kind of people you really like — not just with those who are easy to meet. Be friendly to a lot of people. If so, more people will choose to make friends with you.

Weather can influence (影响) people’s intelligence(智力). A report in 1983 showed that IQ of a group of students was very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% lower. That wind could help people have higher intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. A recent report shows that students in many schools of the US often get low marks in exams in the hot months of the year( July and August).
Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They might feel unhappy during cold days. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer.
Low air pressure (气压) may make people forgetful. People leave more bags on buses and in shops on low-pressure days. People feel best at a temperature of about 18°C.
