Thanks to improvements in both health care and personal safety, most people are living healthier, longer lives. Someone who is born today can expect to live 25 years longer than someone who was born in the 19th century. It's even thought that in the future more and more people will celebrate their hundredth birthday. Here are five rules for a healthy life.
We all know that we shouldn't run across the road in front of the oncoming traffic, or cycle too close to cars. But we’re not sure about how to stay safe in the countryside. When you're out walking you should always go with someone. and tell your parents where you're planning to go. Remember! Climbing may also mean falling-what goes up must come down. Safety rules and advice are there to help you, not to make life less fun.
Sure, it's comfortable to sit on the couch and watch. But experts say you should walk at least 10,000 steps every day to keep fit. In the past, People's jobs required more physical effort. When farmers were working in the fields, they were keeping fit at the same time. Think about it: do you get the same amount of exercise today as they did in the past?
It's important to eat plenty of the right things, above all, fruit, vegetables, and to see fast food or sweets as something very special- maybe just and then. The wrong diet means you'll put on weight, one of the fastest ways to an unhealthy life.
When we were babies, we slept for much of the day- if our parents were lucky! Teenagers don't need as much sleep but it's important to get about eight hours' sleep. At weekends, you've got more time, so use it not just for your friends, but for rest, too.
Yes, you knew I was going to say this! But it's so important. More teenagers damage their health through smoking and taking drugs than any other dangers. Think about the effect on your family and friends, and think about its effect on you and your health.
A.Don't worry. Be happy! |
B.Say no ... to smoking and drugs! |
C.Be careful! It's dangerous out there! |
D.Rest up while you can! |
E. Watch your diet!
F. Don't be a couch potato!
Rico is a dog who lives in Germany(德国). His owners trained him from a young age to find his toys. When they say the name of a certain toy, Rico can find it. In fact, he seems to know the names of 200 toys!
Some researchers in Germany wanted to test Rico. They put his toys in a room and then told him to go in the room and find a certain toy. Then they told Rico to go into the room and get the new toy. This new toy had a name Rico had never heard before. Rico found the right toy seven out of ten times!

A punctual person is in the habit of doing a thing at the correct time and is never late for anything.
An unpunctual man never does what he has to do at the right time. He is always in a hurry and in the end loses both time and his good name. A lost thing may be found again, but lost time can never be got back. Time is more useful than material(物质) things. In fact, time is life itself. An unpunctual man is always wasting his most important things as well as others’. An unpunctual person is always saying unhapppily that he finds no time to answer letters or return calls. A school bus is one that is used to take children to and from school.
In the USA, about 450,000 school buses take more than 25 million children to and from school. The yellow school bus is a US icon(象征).Yellow became the color of school buses in the USA in 1939. There are not many school buses in Britain, and they are not yellow. They have trackers(跟踪器) on them, so kids are being tracked while they travel to and from school by bus. The trackers let parents know where the school bus is and whether their kinds are on the bus.
Kindergarten(幼儿园) is difficult time for some kids. It’s the first time for them to go away from their parents. To make kids love their school, Japanese kindergartens and schools have colorful buses. The buses can easily make children want to take them---and then, go to school. Even some parents want to take them, too!

When I was about 12, I had an enemy (敌人), a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings (缺点). Week by week her list grew: I was very thin; I wasn’t a good student; I talked too much; I was too proud (骄傲), and so on. I tried to hear all these as long as I could. At last, I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes.
He listened to me quietly. Then he asked, “Are the thing she said true or not? Janet, didn’t you ever think about what you are really like? Well, you now have that girl’s opinion. Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said.”
I did as he told me. To my great surprise, I discovered that about half the things were true. Some of them I couldn’t change (like being very thin), but a good number I could --- and suddenly I wanted to change. For the first time I got a very clear picture of myself.
I brought the list back to Daddy. He wouldn’t like to take it. “That is just for you,” he said, “You know better than anyone else the truth about yourself. But you have to learn to listen, not just close your ears in anger and feeling hurt. When something said about you is true, you will find it will be of help to you. Our world is full of people who think they know your duty. Don’t shut your ears. Listen to them all, but hear the truth and do the right thing.”
Daddy’s advice has returned to me at many important periods. In my life, I have never had a better piece of advice.Which do you think would be the best title (标题) for this passage?
