“Sesame Street”is a TV programme for children. It first appeared in New York
1969. It is called "the longest street in the world". That's the TV programme by that name can now be seen in so many parts of the world.
In the US over six million children watch the programme regularly. The include
more than half the nation's pre-school(学龄前)children. Parents love the programme. Many teachers also consider it a great help, some educators are against certain things in it.
Tests show children from different have benefited(收获)from watching the programme. Those who watch it five times week learn more than those who watch it once in a while. In the US the programme is shown at hours so that more children can watch it. The programmes all songs, stories, jokes and pictures to help children understand numbers, letters and human relationship. But there are some differences
,the programme made in Mexico City more time to teaching whole words than to teaching letters one by one.
Why is“Sesame Street" more successful than other children's shows? There many reasons—the good education of its producers, the support the government and businesses, and the skillful use of many TV tricks. Also watch it along with their children. This is partly because famous adult stars often appear on it. But the best reason may be that it makes every child able to learn. Children find themselves learning, and they want to learn .

Sam was worried. The following morning, he would have art class. It was his favourite class, but there was a 1 . Sam saw the world differently from everybody else. When he drew, birds had different-sized wings, and buildings had strange shapes. Every time he painted a picture, his teachers and classmates would be 2 .
It was time for the art class. Nervously, Sam looked at the white piece of paper in front of him.
“Good morning, class,” said Mr White. “Today, we're going to paint...”
Sam 3 , wondering what the next word would be. Please, he thought, not houses. Not buildings ...
“We're going to paint 4,” said Mr White, with a smile.
"Yes! Great!" said Sam 5
“We can't paint that!” shouted Mike from the other side of the classroom.
“Sure, you can,” replied Mr White __6 . “Think about it, Mike. What makes you happy?”
“Umm ... beaches, sunshine, and ... ice-cream!” said Mike.
“Well, there you go. That’s how you paint it. Start working!” said Mr White.
Sam was already 7_. He splashed (泼洒)large amounts of paint all over the 8 . It was really beautiful! There were shapes that we didn't have in the real world and the colours were so shining. The whole class __9_ and Sam looked proud.
From that day on, Sam was never 10 about art class. He knew that he could paint happiness, no matter what he painted.

Run for Class President
Two months ago, when our class election (选举) started,I decided to nun for class president.I enjoyed speaking in public and got along well with people,so I felt it easy to win.But I was (1) that people would feel bad for me if I lost.
I was busy preparing in the following week.My plan wasn't to make promises to do things I couldn't (2) but to show my class why I wanted to be the president.I put up my posters in hallways and in the classroom.I also spent three hours writing my speech, saying that I was the one they could tum to whenever they had a problem.Since I was (3) prepared,I felt that my chances of winning were strong.
However, when I gave my speech on Election Day,the response (反应) wasn't what I had (4) .Few people actually listened. When it was my opponent's (对手的) turn, everyone was screaming (尖叫) his name. His speech was short, (5) all to the point.By then,I realized I should have made(6) shorter and clearer.
It was obvious (明显的) who would (7) .For the rest of the day,I felt like it was over.I wanted to just go home and cry,but I made it through.
My prediction was right:I didn't win.The next day, people were still talking about the (8) .I just pretended (假装) not to hear. But later, things got better.People (9) about the election and talked to me just as they did before.
I don't regret putting time and energy(10) the election because I've learned that things aren't always going the way I expect. And moments of failure like this build character一since then I've learned to face disappointment and grown stronger.

What do you need for an invention to be a success?
To begin with, good timing is very ____45____ . You can have a good idea which the public doesn't want yet. Take Giovanni Caselli as an example. He invented the first fax machine in the 1860s. Though the quality was excellent, his invention quickly ____46____ . The fax machine did not become a necessary piece of equipment in every office until the 1980s.
Money also helps. The Frenchman Denis Papin had the idea for a steam engine almost a hundred years before James Watt was born. Denis never had enough money to ____47____ one.
You also need to be patient. It took scientists nearly eighty years to invent a light bulb. ____48____ , you shouldn't be too slow. In the 1870s, Elisha Gray developed plans for a telephone. Gray saw it only as "a beautiful toy". When he finally sent details of his invention to the Patent Office ( 专利局 ) on February 14th, 1876, it was too ____49____ . Almost the same designs had arrived just two hours earlier. The young man who sent them was Alexander Graham Bell. He is remembered as the inventor of the telephone.
Of course what you really need is a wonderful idea. If you haven't got one, a walk in the countryside and a careful look at ____50____ can help. The Swiss scientist, George de Mestral, had the idea for Velcro ( 粘扣 ) when he found his clothes covered in sticky seed pods after a walk in the countryside.
