In modern society there is a great deal of argument about competition. Some 36it highly, believing that it is 37 for social progress and prosperity. Others say that 38is bad, that it sets one person against another; that it 39unfriendly relationship between people.
I have taught many children who held the 40that their self-worth relied on how well they 41 at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often life-and –death affairs. In their single-minded 42of success, the development of many other human qualities is 43forgotten.
44 , while some seem to be lost in the desire to succeed, others take a(n) 45attitude. In a culture valuing only the winner and 46to the ordinary players, they strongly 47 competition. They seem to seek failure by not trying to win or 48success. By not trying, they always have a(n) 49:“I may have lost, but it doesn’t matter 50I really didn’t try.” 51 , this belief is the same as 52of the true competitors trying to prove themselves. Both are based on the 53belief that one’s self-respect relies on how well one performs in 54 with others. Both are afraid of not being valued. Only as this basic and often troublesome fear begins to dissolve(缓解) 55 a new meaning in competition.

Childish Voice
When I was a young child, my parents often told me that it was time to teach a man everything. I didn’t understand and wondered why 36had such a big influence 37 a person. I thought I could grow up quickly to find it out as an adult. But now, 38I come to knock at the door of adulthood, I feel 39 to express my own 40on this saying. I know that I’m just a high school student with very 41experiences. There are still many things 42 me in the future, yet I would like to express myself in a childish voice.
I once read this sentence: “To make this world a happy place to live, you’d better 43youreself and your heart , instead of the whole world.” I was shocked. It made me think about life 44 . There are so many things around us that 45our will. We can’t force life 46our wishes. The earth won’t stop turning no matter whether we 47 it or not. What we can do is just to make ourselves 48the world. I think we should learn to accept 49life gives us, no matter whether it’s the spring sunlight or the winter snowfall, and try to be happy.
Deeply moved by the pop song Grandmother (by Jay Chou), I always try to 50 every pleasant thing in my life, but now I see I don’t catch most of the pleasant moments. It is more 51that they slip by and leave you feeling 52. I realize that I’m not just living 53 myself and that there are the others around me I should think of .They all pay attention to my growing up, even if it’s just a little progress.
Everyone has his or her own attitude towards life, be it positive or 54. It doesn’t matter, I think. There is one 55 that should be obeyed—and that’s to make this world better.

During the years of depression(萧条), food and money were very hard to find and people had to trade things with each other.
One day I was 36some potatoes from Mr Miller. I noticed a small poor boy hungrily 37 a full basket of 38green peas. Then I was 39to see that Mr Miller sold the boy a bag of peas for just a marble (弹球).
Mrs Miller, who had been standing nearby,40and told me that Mr Miller loved to trade with the three boys in the village for peas, tomatoes, and other things 41he didn’t really need any marbles. I left the stand, smiling to myself, 42 by this man.
Several years went by. One day I learned that Mr Miller had died. I took part in the funeral(葬礼), 43 three young men . They came over to Mrs Miller, hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke with her and moved on, 44their eyes.
Our 45came to meet Mrs Miller. I mentioned 46 she had told me about the 47 . She told me,“Those three young men above were the boys I told you about. They just told me 48 they appreciated the things Jim‘traded’with them. Now, at last, they came to pay their debt.”
“We’ve 49had a great deal of the wealth in this world,” she added, “but right now, Jim would consider himself to be the 50 man.”
Then she gently lifted the 51 fingers of her husband. Resting underneath were three red marbles.
At that time I realized that we would not be 52by our words, but by our kind 53 . It is said that it takes a minute to find a 54person, an hour to appreciate him, a day to love him, but an entire life to 55him.

宽容是人世间最好的良药。对于一些无可挽回的悲剧或过失,过多的指责没有任何意义,因为悲剧或过失是任何人都不希望发生的。这时惟有以一种宽容的心态来对待身边的人或事,看待得与失。
Human Relations
----- By Marion Williams
A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and you can imagine how excited they were. Certainly the boy was 1as the apple of their eyes.
One morning, the husband saw a medicine bottle 2.As he was late for work, he asked his wife to cap the bottle and ___3____. The mother, who was busy in the kitchen, 4the matter. The boy playfully went to the medicine bottle, was 5 with its color, and drank it all. It 6to be a poisonous medicine 7adults in small dosages. When the child showed signs of poisoning, the mother took him to the hospital,8 he died. The mother was stunned(使昏迷).She was too 9to face her husband. When the10 father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he 11his wife and uttered just four words.
The husband just said “ 12”
The husaband was indeed 13in human relationships. The child was dead. He could 14 be brought back to life. There was no 15in finding fault with the mother. 16, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle in the cupboard or other place, this would not have happened. No one is 17 . She had also lost her only child .What she needed at that moment was consolation(安慰,慰藉) and 18from the husband. That was what he gave her.
If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective(观点), there would be much fewer problems in the world. Sometimes we spend time in asking who is19 or whom to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people we know. By this way we 20some warmth in human relationship .
