A friend of mine met with an accident driving in darkness. His legs were so hurt that he couldn’t move. What was the was that he found himself unable to ask for help---his mobile phone went out of as a result of exhausted battery. Nothing could be done but to in cold wilderness. It was eight hours later that day broke, and then of the rescue.
It is almost that he could stand(忍受) the horror in the darkness for so long. Even more surprising was his : “First of all, I up my physical, checked up my conditions and found myself not in mortal danger. As there was no to call for help, I leaned back in my seat trying my best to stop the wound(伤) from . In this way I dozed off(打瞌睡).”
His story put an end to my regret for the of an exploration adventure that happened last year. A group of young men to explore a mountain cave and got lost. to find a way out in the dark cave, they were frightened and ran anxiously(焦虑地) without a sense of . Finally they died in fear and exhaustion. According to the people that found them, the place where they got lost was only about 10 meters away from the of the cave. If they stayed on the spot when they lost their way and tried to themselves, they would probably sense a faint light glimmering(发出微弱的光) not far away.
Don’t you think you can compare(对比) it with itself? When you meet with in life and work, you are lost in darkness. Sometimes it’s unclear yet and you needn’t put up struggle(抗争) . It seems to be a negative(消极) attitude, a person who can afford to do so must have foresight(远见) as well as a great courage in the first place.

Have you thought about what determines the way we are as we grow up? Remember the TV program Seven Up ? It started following the lives of a group of children in 1963. We first meet them as wide-eyed seven-year-olds and then catch up with them at seven-year intervals (间隔 ) : nervous 14-year-olds , serious 21-year-olds , then grown-ups.
Some of the stories are inspiring ,others sad ,but what is interesting in almost all the cases is the way in which the children's early hopes and dreams are shown in their future lives, for example ,at seven ,Tony is a lively child who says he wants to become a sportsman or a taxi driver. When he grows up, he goes on to do both. How about Nicki ,who says, "I'd like to find out about the moon. " and goes on to become a space scientist. As a child, soft - spoken Bruce says he wants to help "poor children" and ends up teaching in India.
But if the lives of all the children had followed this pattern, the program would be far less interesting than it actually was. It was the children whose childhood did not prepare them for what was to come that made the program so inspiring. Where did their ideas come from about what they wanted to do when they grew up? Are children influenced by what their parents do ,by what they see on television ,or by what their teachers say? How great is the effect of a single important event? Many film directors ,including Stephen Spielberg ,say that an early visit to the cinema was the turning point in their lives. Dr. Magaret Mc Allister ,who has done a lot of research in this area ,thinks that the major influences are parents , friends and the wider society.
What does the text mainly discuss?
A.New ways to make a TV program interesting. B.The importance of television programs to children. C.Different ways to make childhood dreams come true. D.The influence of childhood experience on future lives.
A.different groups of people at different periods of their lives B.different groups of people at the same period of their lives C.the same group of people at different periods of their lives D.the same group of people at the same period of their lives
A.Many people's childhood hopes are related to their future jobs. B.There are many poor children in India who need help. C.Children have different dreams about their future. D.A lot of people are very sad in their childhood.
A.going to a movie at an early age helps a child learn about society B.a single childhood event may decide what one does as a grown-up C.parents and friends can help a child grow up properly D.films have more influence on a child than teachers do

My family and I used to live in Belgium, and, to me, life was great. Most of my relatives and friends lived there, so there was never a of aunts to spoil me or children to play with me.
My father is a journalist, there wasn't much work for him in Belgium at that time. When I was eight, he he'd found a good job in London and that we were going to move there. I was - I didn't realize I was leaving my friends behind and throwing myself into a different world. The excitement soon after we moved there.
our arrival in London, I had to start a new school and learn a new . I didn't know things in fashion, either. For the six months I had extra lessons to learn English. This with cards and progressed towards books. I'm a learner ,so I soon caught up. It was fitting in with other in my school that took a bit more work.
For the first two years or so I was an outsider, no matter how much I tried to . This made me and sensitive - a perfect target for bullies. Thankfully, some of my classmates began to me, and they became a great help as they helped me to the things that made me a "foreigner". By the time I primary school, most people couldn't believe I had moved to England only four years before. I was able to fit in, grasp the language and adapt to the culture.
Trying to fit in is my to anyone who has just moved from the homeland. or is planning to. "Fitting in" doesn't mean completely yourself to be someone else ,but it does mean trying to learn the culture and language, ,which will make your life easier.
