Can you imagine living without the World Wide Web?
March 12 is the “birthday” of the World Wide Web, or the Web for short. Twenty-five years ago on that day, British engineer Tim Berners-Lee wrote a proposal (提议) to set up “pages” of information that are connected to each other around the world. It laid the foundation for the World Wide Web.
Since then, the Web has changed the way people live.
Now, 25 years after its birth, how will the Web influence life in the future?
The Pew Research Center talked to thousands of experts. They believe there are both good and bad sides.
A growing Web will help different cultures build “better relationships”, said the Pew report.
Also in the future, everyday items could be connected to the Web. So one day in the future, your front door could send you a message: “Dear sir, everyone has left the house, but I’m still open!”
But scientists also warn us about the loss of privacy. No matter what, don’t spend your whole day in front of the screen, said the founder of the Web.
“ We have to make sure technology doesn’t drive that out,” said Berners-Lee.
