On a stormy day last August, Tim heard someone shouting. Looking at the sea carefully, he saw that two kids in a rowboat were being pulled out to sea.
Two 12-year-old boys, Christian and Jack, had rowed out in a boat to recover a football. Once they’d rowed beyond the calm waters, a beach umbrella tied to the boat caught the wind and pulled the boat into open water. The boys were terrified and tried to row back to shore. But they were no match for it and the boat was out of control.
Tim knew that it would soon be swallowed by the waves.
“Everything went quiet in my head,” Tim recalls. “I’m trying to figure out how to swim to the boys in a straight line.”
Tim took off his clothes and jumped into the water. Every 500 yards or so, he raised his head to judge his progress. “At one point, I considered turning back,” he says. “I wondered if I was putting my life at risk.” After 30 minutes of struggling, he was close enough to shout to the boys, “Take down the umbrella!”
“Let’s aim for the pier(码头),” Jack said. Tim turned the boat toward it. Soon afterward, waves crashed over the boat, and it began to sink. “Can you swim?” he cried. “A little bit,” the boys said.
Once they were in the water, Tim decided it would be safer and faster for him to pull the boys toward the pier. Christian and Jack were wearing life jackets and floated on their backs. Tim swam toward land as water washed over the boys’ faces.
“Are we almost there?” they asked again and again. “Yes,” Tim told them each time.
After 30 minutes, they reached the pier.

I am very thankful to the cat and it always makes me think of the time I was with him.

Five years ago, when my father was dying. I travelled a thousand miles from my home to be with him in his last days. I felt very sad and it was one of the most difficult and painful times in my life. After he passed away, I stayed alone in his apartment. There were so many things to deal with. I was lonely and I hated the silence of the apartment.

But one evening the silence was broken: I heard crying outside. I opened the door and found a little cat on the floor. He was thin and poor. I brought him inside and gave him a can of fish.He ate it and then soon fell asleep.

The next morning I asked the neighbors and learned that the cat had been left by his owner. His owner had moved away, so the little cat was there all alone, just like I was.As I walked back to the apartment,I tried to work out what to do with him. I had something else to do so taking care of the cat seemed like the very last thing I could do But as soon as I opened the door, he ran to me and lay by my feet. It was clear from that moment that he didn't want to go anywhere. I started calling him Willis in order to remember my father's best friend.

From then on, things grew easier. With Willis, time seemed to pass much faster. When the time finally came for me to return my home, I had to decide what to do about Willis. There was no way I would leave without him.

First﹣grade teacher Katie Ricca of Florida has been giving her math lessons every day on Zoom. At the same time, she has to take care of the studies of her five little ones. So when she spared no effort to help one of her students out, the child's mom couldn't stop singing her praises.

During one of her many Zoom calls, Katie noticed a girl named Hannah had shut down in the middle of the lesson. "Our class tried talking to her, but there's something wrong with her." Katie said later. When Hannah left the lesson early, she became worried.

Once class was over, Katie texted Kelley Close, her mom, to check in and found out Hannah "was sad but didn't know why." On hearing this, Katie asked if she could pay a short visit the next day. Kelley said yes.

"Today her teacher came over and hung out for some time."Kelley wrote on Facebook."They chatted, read books, and just talked.Though this woman has five kids at home, she kept social distancing(距离) with my daughter and sat in my driveway for an hour to make sure Hannah was okay."

For Katie, spending time with Hannah wasn't a waste of time. "Seeing my student upset, I knew I had to show her I care for her," the teacher explained. "She told me she couldn't understand the math lesson and that she felt bad about that. I just explained the lesson to her again and told her to do more math practice. I showed her 1 understood her feelings and that she wasn't alone."

In the hour, Katie took away from homeschooling her own children that day. She gave a sweet memory to a little girl in need.

The Galapagos Islands are a special group of islands 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador. Because the islands are so far from land, they are home to many plants and animals that you can't find anywhere else, such as giant tortoises(巨龟).The Islands are also far from each other. This has allowed different kinds of animals to develop on different islands. There are at least 12 different kinds of Galapagos tortoises.

Giant tortoises can live for more than 100 years though their living environment is sometimes bad.Over long periods of time, they've slowly changed their shells(外壳) and body styles to better fit the environment.

Hood Island is one of the Galapagos Islands. Like many other Galapagos tortoises, the number of Hood Island tortoises dropped dangerously low. Long ago, the Galapagos Islands were a favorite stopping place for the ship﹣men, who used giant tortoises as food on their trips. In 1976, the Charles Darwin Research Station (CDRS) began a program to raise their number.Several Hood Island tortoises were brought to a special area on Santa Cruz Island, and young tortoises could be raised and cared for here.At the time, Diego had been living in a zoo in California for about 30 years. When scientists realized he was a Hood Island tortoise, he was returned to take part in the program. The program was a great success. In 2020, there are nearly 2,000 Hood Island tortoises alive.Diego is believed to be responsible for about 40% of them. Now scientists believe that the Hood Island tortoises won't disappear.

There is no longer a need for a special program for Hood Island tortoises, and Diego and 14 other tortoises have now been returned to Hood Island.
