This morning, we had a school trip to the Dashan Collection House, a building of two floors. It is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We took the school bus and arrived at 9:00. When we entered the collection house, our eyes were caught by a collection of old photos of the town on the walls of the front hall. Those photos told us something about the history of the town. And then in the Art Room, we saw many pictures of the countryside. Some famous local artists drew them. The colors of the flowers and the trees were rich and bright. All at once, I lost myself in the beauty of nature.
Then we went upstairs(楼上). On the left, there were over one hundred different clocks. The oldest clock was already more than two hundred years old. To my surprise, the clocks all worked well and they could tell the right time. It was then ten o’clock, and some clocks made different beautiful sounds. It seemed to be a concert. How amazing!
On the right there was also a stone(石头)collection. The stones were from all over the country. They were in different sizes, colors and shapes. Some looked like different kinds of animals. I really liked one stone that looked like a little monkey. It looked very nice.
The collections there were wonderful. So we stayed there until 11:30 in the morning. I had a great time and really liked the school trip.

Have you heard of dodos (渡渡鸟)? The dodo was a large bird. But you might not think it was a bird at all, for the dodo could not fly. It was a member of the chicken family. It lived happily and safely until humans arrived in 1505. European sailors (水手) discovered the bird in 1507 on the Island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.
When the sailors talked about the strange bird that could not fly, people found it hard to believe it. The Europeans on the Island of Mauritius and the pigs they brought with them found the birds very good to eat. So large numbers of dodos were killed and by 1681 no living dodos were found on the island. A few dodos were brought to England in the 17th century, but for 200 years none have been seen alive. The humans didn’t know how to protect the birds. They caused the dodos’ extinction (灭绝) . This is how the phrase “as dead as a dodo” came. Because they died out completely, dodos became very well-known. It gave humans a big lesson.European sailors discovered dodos in ________.

Dear new moms,
You should teach your children manners (礼仪) as soon as your children can understand what you’re saying. When your children do something right, let them know. When your children do something wrong, tell them how they should do it and why.
Here are some basic manners for children:
1. Wait for their turn and don’t interrupt other people when they are speaking. Tell them to wait until someone finishes speaking, and then ask questions.
2. Always greet the people who come over to your house. You can teach your children to shake hands with grown-ups (成年人) who come over, but it’s not necessary to shake hands with other children. Your children should always say “hello” or “hi” when someone comes to your home so that the guest (客人) feels welcome.
3. Say “please” and “Thank you” often. And say “You’re welcome” to answer others’ “Thank you”.
4. After playing a game, no matter what the result is, be pleased. If your children win, tell them not to show off (炫耀), but to be kind. If they lose, tell them not to get mad and tell the other children that they did a good job or speak well of them.

Hi Lingling,
Thanks for your last message. It was great to hear from you, and I can’t wait to meet you.
I hope you will know me from my photo when I arrive at the airport. I am quite tall , with short fair hair, and I wear glasses. I’ll wear jeans and a T-shirt for the journey, but I’ll also carry my warm coat. I’ve got your photo--- you look very pretty. I’m sure we’ll find each other!
Thanks for telling me about your hobbies. You sound just like me! I spend a lot of time playing classical music with my friends at school, but I also like dance music---I love dancing! I enjoy sports as well, especially tennis. My brother is in the school tennis team--- I’m very proud of him! He is good at everything, but I’m not. Sometimes I get bad marks at school, and I feel sad. I should work harder.
You asked me, “How do you feel about coming to China” Well, I often feel a bit sad at first when I leave my mum and dad for a few days, and I’m quite shy when I am with strangers. I feel nervous when I speak Chinese, but I’ll be fine in a few days. I’m always sorry when I don’t know how to do things in the right way, so please help me when I am with you in China! Oh, I’m afraid of flying too. But I can’t tell you how excited I am about going to China!
See you next week!
