Junelle Lynch knocked on more than 200 doors in the Gayln Manor neighborhood of Brunswick in recent weeks. Her aim is to collect hundreds of pounds of food for the Brunswick Food Bank.
“I like helping people a lot,” said Junelle, who celebrated her 11th birthday in June.
With the support of her parents Isabella and Robert, Junelle walked along the streets with an orange grocery bag(杂货袋). Isabella always accompanies her daughter. Isabella helps her daughter by car, so Junelle can empty her grocery bag when it becomes heavy. Junelle’s friend, Destiny Williams, helped the first night, but he didn’t turn up the rest of the time.
Neighbor Lynda Mallory donated food to Junelle. Mallory dropped noodles, canned soup, vegetables and fruits into Junelle's bag. After visiting the last house and looking at what she collected, Junelle said she felt good about what she achieved with the help of her neighbors.
Working an hour a night three times per week, she has collected more than 400 pounds of canned and boxed food. This isn't the first year she’s collected food. Junelle started nearly three years ago when, at 8 years old, she saw a collection box at a grocery store and decided to become involved. In her first year, she collected 80 pounds of food in the mostly undeveloped neighborhood, and 214 pounds the next year. The food helped feed many families.
When she isn't helping, Junelle is a straightA student who snowboards, plays the trumpet, sings with the Brunswick Chorus, plays basketball and writes poems. She plans on spending her summer vacation attending a basketball camp.

An ATM that spits out cupcakes instead of cash is now filling a popular demand in the American market:late-night desire for freshly baked sweets.
In six cities across the country, sugar addicts can now purchase a cupcake for $4.25 from an automatic machine 24 hours every day.The freshly baked goods are made by the California-based cupcake shop Sprinkles.
The idea came to the company's co-founders Candace and Charles Nelson when Candace was pregnant with their first child. Candace thought it was ridiculous that she owned cupcake bakeries aad couldn’t get a freshly baked treat at an unusual hour. That desire inspired the company’s first cupcake ATM in Beverly Hills,Calif.in 2012。
Charles said each ATM serves about l,000 cupcakes per day.The machine is so popular that when it appeared in Manhattan, customers were lined up around the block to use it.
Yet,inventing the first cupcake ATM was not as easy as convincing customers to use it.When the Nelsons started defigning the machine, they quickly realized nothing existed that could give a fully unbroken cupcake to a customer. The company had to partner with a European firm to develop the technology that could deliver a cupcake without dropping it several feet like a typical machine. After going through a seeond development cycle with the product, the ATMs can now satisfy tlle demand of growing customers and even make as many as four cupcakes at a time.
In terms of the company, the-machine allows Sprinkles to do the impossible:increase hours of operation without raising costs. Now the company can sell cupcakes around the clock through the ATM without paying employees.

In eighteen seventy-seven,the American government decided to move the Nez Perce Indians from their land. The government had set up a reservation for them in Idaho. Chief Joseph did not want to leave the land. It was holy ground. It contained the bones of his father and mother.
But,like his father in earlier times,Chief Joseph knew it would be hopeless to stay and defend the land. There were too few Indians to win a war against the white men.
And so in June of eighteen seventy-seven,the Nez Perce left their home in the Wallowa Valley. They left quickly. They were able to take only a small part of what they owned, and just a few cattle and Appaloosa horses.
When the Indians reached the Snake River, the water was very deep and ran very fast with melted snow from the mountains. Chief Joseph and his people made boats from sticks and dried animal skins to cross the river. While the Indians were busy,a group of white men came and stole some of the cattle waiting at the edge of the river.
The other chiefs demanded that Joseph call a meeting. Two of the chiefs,White Bird and Toohoolhoolzote, spoke for War,but Joseph held different opinion.
Some of the young men in White Bird’s group were very angry. That night, they rode into the countryside and killed eleven white persons.
During all his years as chief,Joseph had tried to keep the peace. Now he saw there was no hope. Although he and his young men had taken no part in the killings,he knew that the white men would blame all of the Indians. Chief Joseph said,“I would have given my own life if I could have undone the killing of the white men.”
Many Nez Perce fled. Chief Joseph remained, because his wife was about to have a baby. After she gave birth,he and his family joined the others in White Bird Canyon to the south.
Joseph wanted to lead the people to safety in the flat lands of Montana. But the United States army quickly sent horse soldiers to follow them.
They were extremely tired when they reached White Bird Canyon. An Indian—carrying a white flag—walked forward to meet them. A soldier shot him.
With that shot, war between the Nez Perce and the United States began.
Why didn’t Chief Joseph want to leave the land?

A.He didn’t want to live with the white men.
B.He had special feeling for the land where he was living.
C.He didn’t want to be separated from his parents.
D.He thought the reservation in Idaho wasn’t satisfying.

B.When the Indians reached the Snake River,it was very hard for them to cross it.

D.Before they left their home, the Nez Perce had only a few cattle and Appaloosa horses.

From the passage we can infer that ________.

C.white men often killed some Indians
