Brothers Robert and Lemon grew up in a black neighborhood in Richmond, California. Both boys were in school and got mostly A’s on their report cards through primary school. But from a working-class family, the two growing boys often stole to satisfy their when there was not enough food at home.
Time brought about differences between the two brothers. By the end of the freshman year at Kennedy High School, Lemon had received three F’s on his report card. the school only allowed three failures over four years, one more F and Lemon would be kicked out of school.
