Nowadays, many children spend hours a day looking at computer screens or other digital (数码的) products. Some eye care doctors say all the screen time has caused more children to have what they call computer vision syndrome (视力综合症).
Nathan Warford is an optometrist in the US. He says he has seen more children having eye problems. “More children come into my office because their parents have noticed that they have headaches (头疼)or red eyes, or because their degree of short-sightedness appears to be increasing (增加)very fast and they’re worried,” he said.
Dr. Warford says part of the problem is that even if their eyes start to feel uncomfortable or they start to get a headache, some children don’t tell their parents, because they don’t want their games or the computer to be taken away. Another part of the problem is that people blink (眨眼睛) less often when they look at the screen.A person who uses a computer or a digital product blinks about a third as much as we normally(正常地) do in everyday life. If eyes can’t stay wet or are too tired, they will not be protected like normal.Which of the following may be caused by too much screen time?

Don’t complain in the NBA
The NBA has a new rule(规则) this season. It’s called “zero tolerance(容忍)”. NBA referees(裁判) are not letting players complain too long or too loudly about a referee’s call(裁决). A player who does can be given a foul (犯规). Two fouls, and the player is out of the game.
The players don’t like the new rule and want the NBA to change it. During an exciting, close game, each side may win. They think it’s only natural to get angry if a call goes against you.
But I like the “zero tolerance” rule and wish other sports would follow the NBA’s example. Won’t it be more enjoyable if football, soccer and tennis players stop arguing the calls and just played the game?
Why do I like the new rule? The biggest reason is that it sets a good example to younger players. When kids see stars shouting at the referees and arguing every call, they think it’s part of the game. But shouting at referees and arguing calls should never be part of any kid’s games. Kids should be taught to forget about the referees’ calls and try to improve their skills and play their best.
All players need to learn that you control only one thing in a game, and that’s your own performance. You can’t control what the other players or trainers(教练员) do. And you certainly can’t control the calls the referees make.
Finally, no one from NBA to 8-year-old children should forget that being a basketball referee is a hard job. The referee has to make lots of sudden calls. They cannot be slow or wait. Chances will never come back. Not even the best referee gets every call right.
Maybe if the players, trainers and fans who shout at the referees have to wear a whistle(哨子) and call a few games, they won’t complain loudly about the “zero tolerance” rule.

Although she’s quite young, Drew Barrymore can be a Hollywood legend (传奇). She was born on February 22, 1975, in California. Being from a family that produced great actors, she quickly found her way into the spotlight (聚光灯).
When she was 11 months old, she made her first advertisement on TV. She made her first movie at the age of 2. Five years later, she acted Gertie in Steven Spielberg’s famous film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982).
However, it wasn’t all roses and sunshine when Barrymore was growing up. She was drinking wine by the time she was 9, smoking marijuana (大麻) at 10.
Most kid stars in Hollywood fail to become stars as adults. And most of the time, once they’re out of the spotlight, they stay out. But Drew Barrymore doesn’t.
As she was growing older, Barrymore got to learn that life is more meaningful than dangerous actions in the films. She started to build a career in 1997. She has made many successful films since then, including Charlie’s Angels (2000) and 50 First Dates (2004).
“In my life, there is darkness and drama, and I ‘m trying my best. I just want to challenge myself and prove that I can do more.”
In fact, if you don’t know her disordered childhood, you might find it hard to believe she’s such a sweet person now. Like many of the characters she plays in her comedy, Drew is easy-going and laughs a lot. In 2007, she was on the cover of People magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People issue.
“Life is very interesting … in the end, some of your greatest pains, become your greatest strengths,” Drew said.Drew Barrymore made her first movie at ________ .
