I do a lot of management training each year for the Circle K Corporation, a national chain of convenience stores. Among the topics in ourseminarsis theretention (留住)of quality . During these , I asked the participants, “What has you to stay long enough to become a manager?” Minutes later a new manager the question and slowly, with her voice almost breaking, said, “It was a $19 baseball glove.”
Cynthia told the group that she took a Circle K clerk job. On her second or third day behind the , she received a phone call from her nine-year-old son, Jessie. He a baseball glove for Little League. She that as a single mother, money was , and her first check would have to for paying bills. Perhaps she could buy his baseball glove with her second or third check.
When Cynthia for work the next morning, Patricia, the store manager, asked her to come to the office. Cynthia if she had done something wrong or left some part of her job from the day before. She was and confused.
Patricia her a box. “I overheard you talking to your son yesterday,” she said, “and I know that it is to explain things to kids. This is a baseball glove for Jessie. He may not understand how important he is, even though you have to pay bills you can buy gloves. You know we can’t pay good people like you as as we would like to; but we do , and I want you to know you are important to us.”
People more how much an employer cares than how much the employer pays. An important lesson for the price of a Little League baseball glove.

My Fellow Americans,
I have recently been told that I am one of the millions of Americans who will be suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease (老年痴呆症).
Upon learning this news, Nancy & I had to decide whether as private citizens we would36 this a private matter or we would make this news known in a37 way.
In the past Nancy suffered from breast cancer38 I had my cancer surgeries (外科手术). We found that after we told it to the public, we were able to39 public awareness(意识). We were happy that40 many more people went to have a test. They were treated in early stages and able to41 to normal, healthy lives.
So now, we feel it is42 to share it with you. In opening our hearts, we hope this might promote greater43 of this condition. Perhaps it will encourage a clearer understanding of the individuals and families who are44 by it.
At the moment I feel just fine. I’d45 to live the remainder of the years God gives me on this earth doing the things I have46 done. I will continue to share47 journey with my beloved Nancy and my family. I plan to enjoy the great outdoors and stay in touch48 my friends and supporters.
Unfortunately, as Alzheimer’s Disease49 , the family often suffers a lot. I only wish there was some way I could spare Nancy from this 50 experience. When the time comes I am confident that with your help she will 51 it with faith and courage.
At last, let me thank you, the American people for giving me the great honor of52 me to serve as your President. When the Lord calls me home,53 that may be, I will leave with the greatest love for this country of ours and endless optimism (乐观) for its future.
I now begin this54 that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I know that for America there will always be a bright 55 ahead.
Thank you my friends. May God always bless you.
Sincerely,
Ronald Reagan

The 28-year-old had spent six years working nights while she gained her university degree during the day. When she finally 16 , she had her eye on a teaching 17 at a nearby primary school. With the help of her friends, she had 18 with the Head.
“I noticed a tiny 19in one of my stockings earlier.” she recalled. “I thought about20 them, but I knew I’d be21 if I did. And by the time I got to the interview,it was bigger. I walked in apologizing for not looking my best.” The would-be teacher didn’t 22 the job. In fact her friends told her that the Head’s only comment was, “If someone doesn’t take the time to23 her best image at an interview, what kind of24 is she going to be?”
In job-hunting, personal25 is very important. After all, you’re selling a product—26 —to an employer. When going to a job interview, always brush your hair tidily, polish your shoes and above all, 27 yourself properly. It will give you a competitive 28 and a positive first 29 . The above idea was also suggested in a best-seller for jobseekers named Dress for Success.
First impressions are 30 ones. In other words, if you’re viewed positively within the critical first four31 , the person you’ve met will32 feel everything you do is positive. Leave the interviewer a bad impression, and often he will guess you have a lot of other33 characters. In a word, he may not take the time to give you a second 34 . Most employers believe that those who look as if they care about35 will care about their jobs.
