题文

Mom and dad are the most important people in your life, and they’re likely to influence you more than anyone else in your lifetime. It’s a parent’s job to love and guide kids, and most parents will do this as long as they live.   Here are four ways you can stay close, get along, and build a strong relationship.
Spend time together. It might be easy to be physically in the same place with your mom and dad.  Instead of playing a computer game or watching TV by yourself, maybe you should ask your mom and dad to play with you. You can go outside together, try a board game, or read a book together.
Many kids say they would like their parents to help them when they’re upset. But your mom and dad might not know that you’re having a problem. Tell your parents if you’re sad or struggling with something. If you don’t usually do this, give it a try and you will be glad.
Be kind. Little things might mean a lot to your mom and dad.  It’s also lovely when a kid offers to help fold the laundry or cleans up his or her room without being asked. And if you try not to fight with your brothers or sisters, your parents might be so excited!
Show your care. Some families are always kissing, hugging, and saying “I love you”         In addition to kisses and hugs, kids and parents can show their love by respecting each other, being caring, polite, and thoughtful.

A.But how much time do you spend just enjoying each other’s company(陪伴)?
B.It’s important to show that you care for each other.
C.But parents do a lot more than just pass down their hobbies.
D.Share your feelings and ask for help.

E. Talk on the phone and email each other to stay in touch.
F. You can brighten your parents’ day with a hug, a card or a joke.
G. That means you have many years to share with your mom and dad.

某网站推出“Who is my angel ?”栏目,以下是有关该栏目中奖者的来信:

A.From Morgan Dunnivan
Hi, I’m 7 years old and my special angel is my mommy. She takes care of me and our house, works with troublesome teens as a volunteer, takes me to gymnastics every week, and works two jobs. My mommy is my best friend and we are angels for each other. She always thinks of others first. I think she should be the Angel among Us winner. Please pick my mommy. It would be a great Christmas gift for her since I can’t buy her a present.
B.From Michael Allen, Greer Uniontown
Whether I am having a good day or in more cases a really bad day, she never seems to fail me, no matter what the circumstances are. Moreover, she’s by far one of my biggest fans. Mom is a really good-hearted person with a beautiful spirit that always shines through even during my darkest days. She definitely earns her angel wings.
C.From Brianna Callahan, Smock
My special angel is my mother. She is there whenever I need her. In my opinion, she deserves the gift. This gift would surely brighten up her day. She is the one who I can count on to help me or have a hot meal ready for dinner. Moms do that but no one really appreciates them as much as they should be. I just want to make her feel special. There may be a lot of special angels out there, but I think my mom is the only special angel in my heart.
D.From Renee Wheeler, Smithfield

We have been blessed with an angel in our family. I don’t even know if she knows the number of lives she has touched. She just goes on with her everyday tasks and never even realizes the wonderful love that flows from her every move. She is known by so many different titles, like, mom, aunt, sister, friend, neighbor, etc.
E. From Nicole Baughman, Smock
My special angel is my daddy. He is always there for me. He is a very hard-working man. And I’m proud of him to be my daddy. He loves me very much. He’s the one who gives us our allowance. He puts food on the table. He is the best daddy in the world. I love him very much. He stands up for us and he cares for all of us. He picks me up because I am still really too short to pick something up.
F. From Sharon Williams, Uniontown
I met my special angel 32 years ago starting my first job. She trained me as a friend. She introduced me to one of her sons to whom I’ve been married for 20 years. She lovingly raised seven children, and after retiring helped to raise a grandchild who is now in college. Living next door she was always there to help with our two sons, babysitting, fixing them snacks, or teaching them how to make peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

Jogging (慢跑) is basically running at a steady (平稳的) speed over short or long distances. It has become popular some twenty years and remained a favorite way of keeping fit for lots of people.
People jog around college campuses, in parks, in the countryside and even in urban areas. Special courts, fields and running tracks are not necessary. Similarly, no special equipment is required — no costly hats, or balls, and no expensive sports kit. Good quality running shoes are advisable, but otherwise the jogger can simply wear loose, comfortable clothing.
It’s not unusual to see joggers exercising in the height of summer or in the depth of winter! Jogging is a solo (单独的) sport. You don’t need to wait until you have formed a team or found a partner. You can jog alone. A few words of warning, however: lone female joggers should be especially careful to choose sensible jogging routes, particularly at night time.
You just need to be basically healthy and after basic warming up, you are ready to begin. You simply start running, gently, and then build up to a steady pace. Do not overtire yourself by trying to go too fast. A steady, comfortable pace is your aim.
It’s good for the lungs, the heart and the circulation (循环). It’s easy and it’s convenient. Why don’t you try it? If you require more information, talk to one of the instructors at the sports centre. We are only too happy to help. Please remember: if you do decide to jog, talk to your doctor first if you have any health worries. Happy jogging!

A.Jogging is excellent for keeping fit.
B.That’s the reason why people like jogging.
C.The act of jogging doesn’t need any special training or skill.
D.One of the main advantages of jogging is that it can be done anywhere.

E. In addition to being able to jog anywhere, you can also jog at any time, in any season!

下面是几则寓言小故事:
56. An ant went to the bank of a river to quench its thirst, and being carried away by the rush of the stream, was on the point of drowning. A dove sitting on a tree overhanging the water plucked a leaf and let it fall into the stream close to her. The ant climbed onto it and floated in safety to the bank. Shortly afterwards a birdcatcher came and stood under the tree, aiming at the dove. The ant, perceiving his design, stung him in the foot. In pain the birdcatcher shouted, and the noise made the dove take wing.
57. Two men were travelling together, when a bear suddenly met them on their path. One of them climbed up quickly into a tree and hid himself in the branches. The other, seeing that he must be attacked, fell flat on the ground, and when the bear came up and felt him with his snout, and smelt him all over, he held his breath, and pretended to be dead as much as he could. The bear soon left him, for he will not touch a dead body. When he disappeared, the other traveller descended from the tree, and asked his friend what it was the bear had whispered in his ear. “He gave me this advice,” his companion replied. “Never travel with a friend who deserts you at the approach of danger.”
58. A prince had some monkeys trained to dance. Being naturally good at learning, they showed themselves excellent pupils, and in their rich clothes and masks, they danced as well as any of the courtiers. Their performance was often repeated with great applause, till on one occasion a courtier, bent on mischief, took from his pocket a handful of nuts and threw them upon the stage. The monkeys at the sight of the nuts forgot their dancing and became (as indeed they were) monkeys instead of actors. Pulling off their masks and tearing their robes, they fought with one another for the nuts. The dancing spectacle thus came to an end in the laughter and ridicule of the audience.
59. A cock was once strutting up and down the farmyard among the hens when suddenly he noticed something shining in the straw. "Ho! ho!" said he, "that’s for me," and soon rooted it out from beneath the straw. It turned out to be a pearl that by some chance had been lost in the yard. “You may be a treasure,” signed the cock, “to man, but for me I would rather have a single barley-corn.”
60. An old man on the point of death summoned his sons around him to give them some parting advice. He ordered his servants to bring in a bunch of sticks, and said to his eldest son: "Break it." The son tried hard, but with all his efforts was unable to break the bundle. The other sons also tried, but none of them was successful. “Untie it,” said the father, “and each of you take a stick.” When they had done so, he called out to them: “Now, break,” and each stick was easily broken.
