In ancient times, the Silk Road was very important. It(与…有联系) Europe with Asia. The Silk Road got its name because businessmen trade silk along it. Besides silk, there were many other(产品) that traveled along the Silk Road.
The Chinese learned to make silk thousands of years ago. For a long time the Chinese were the (唯一的) ones who knew how to make silk. They kept the(秘密) carefully. In ancient China, silk was a(贵重的；宝贵的) material. Only the king, his family and his officers were(允许) to wear clothes that were made of silk.
The ancient Romans were the first Europeans(谁) knew silk. Indians exchanged silk for wools, gold and silver with them.
There were deserts and high mountains in the way, so the trip along the Silk Road could be very dangerous. For businessmen, it was never easy to travel from China to Rome. But the(英雄) never gave up. They spent a long(时期) of time to make it. And it was really worth it.(随着) the time went by, some cities were built along the Silk Road.
