When you sit in the classroom, do you suddenly feel that summer flew by so quickly? I’m still thinking about taking walks in the park and meeting my friends at night. But I know that the school season is beginning. And homework, tests and routine (常规生活) all come with it.
When I stay in my room and write my homework, I often look out of the window and look back at this summer.
In the past two months of summer break, I spent many evenings in my backyard. I listened to my parents telling stories about their childhood. My brother caught fireflies (萤火虫). Once in a while, we made a barbecue and ate chicken and corn.
Now I’m back to school. It’s difficult to find time to do everything that I want to do, like dancing, reading, and sleeping. How I hope to have another break in my studies! I could read a fun book instead of the boring ones that we have to read for English class.
Still, I should not feel sad. Summer gave me time to relax, good memories, laughter, and the experience of new friendships. But without school, I would never appreciate the happy moments in summer and the responsibilities (责任) that I have now. What’s more, there are only 10 more months to go until summer comes again. And in the meantime, I can have lots of fun with my friends as we begin our high school experience together. The article is written _____.

Many years ago,a French naturalist,Comte de Buffon, wrote some books about natural history. The books were a great success even though some critics(批评家)did not like them.
Thomas Jefferson did not like what Comte de Buffon had said about the natural wonders(奇观)of the New World. It seemed to Jefferson that Comte de Buffon had spoken of natural wonders in America as if(好像)they were unimportant.
This troubled Thomas Jefferson. He was also a naturalist,as well as a farmer,an inventor,a historian,a writer and a politician(政治家).He had seen the natural wonders of Europe. To him, they were no more important than those of the New World.
In 1788,Thomas Jefferson wrote about his home state,Virginia. While writing,he thought of its natural beauty and then of the words of Comte de Buffon. At that moment,Jefferson created a new word﹣belittle. He said,"Comte de Buffon believes that nature belittles her productions on this side of the Atlantic(大西洋)."
Noah Webster, the American word expert, liked this word.He put it in the English language dictionary in 1806,"Belittle﹣to make small, unimportant."
Americans had already accepted Jefferson's word and started to use it.In 1797,the Independent Chronicle(独立纪事报)used the word to describe a politician the paper supported."It is an honorable man,"the paper wrote,"so let the opposition try to belittle him as much as they please."
In 1872,a famous American word expert decided that the time had come to kill this word.He said,"Belittle shouldn't become English. And more critical writers of America, like those of Britain, feel no need of it."

Sophie Chen is a 14﹣year﹣old girl from Taiwan. When she was 6years old, she did something amazing.
She finished a 2,100﹣kilometer bike journey from Xi'an, the capital city of Shanxi, to Turpan, a city in Xinjiang, with her parents. It took them two and a half months. Sophie became the youngest child in the world to have biked along the Silk Road. Chinese novel Journey to the West inspired her to do so.
That is not all. Sophie wrote a book about the long journey with her father Jack Chen, a professional outdoor explorer. On April 26, the book's English version (版本) Biking the Silk Road: 6﹣year﹣old Sophie's Fantasy Tour came out in Beijing.
Now Sophie studies at Ta Hwa High School. She sees the journey as a special experience in her life. She became more hardworking and learned history and geography better because of it.
On the way, she met many friendly local people and saw amazing things. She even picked grapes! "The grapes in Xinjiang were so big and sweet. I have never seen grapes like them in Taiwan," she said.
Still, it was not easy. "The biggest challenge was the bad weather and road conditions," she said. She wrote in the book, "It was terribly hot in the Gobi Desert. I almost got sunstroke and could never have enough to drink."
Sophie has biked in other countries, such as the United States and Turkey. This summer holiday, she plans to ride a bike from Greece to Portugal in Europe.
