There are many factors which may have an influence on adults and children being able to lead a healthy life.
Often, both parents work outside the home. Children are expected to take on more responsibility at home to help their parents. They also have sports and leisure activities as well as school expectations.
The business also adds another factor: They need to use cars to get from one place to another quickly. Computers, DVDs, CDs, television, Play-Stations and X-boxes have become major leisure activities, rather than traditional more active pursuits. This has led to a lifestyle of less exercise.
. Unfortunately, they also promote fast food which fits easily into busy lifestyles. It is much more convenient at times to buy a quick takeaway rather than prepare a meal. The media constantly bombard (轰炸) their audience with “ perfect” body images, the need to buy the most fashionable clothes, the most up-to-date computer games, the best places to visit and the best things to do.
Environments vary. This can be harmful to people who suffer from breathing difficulties. Environments where passive smoking is unavoidable make it difficult to lead a healthy life.
. Any person who wants to be healthy will find a way to be healthy---if he/she is motivated enough!
A.The media provide entertainment and information. |
B.Advertisements play an important role in people’s life. |
C.We may be exposed to pollution, such as cigarette smoke. |
D.Nowadays, people are very busy. |
E. People are living in a bad air environment.
F. The important one is motivation or the desire to be healthy.
G. Today society places a lot of emphasis on technology.
The attraction of television is undeniable when it comes to kids. Here are guidelines we created to help us decide what’s appropriate for our family:
Monitor television time. Choosing good shows isn’t a big issue if you’re not watching a lot of television, so really the best solution to finding appropriate television is saying, “Go play.”
Don’t trust network ratings. A kid-approved stamp given by a television network is a general guide that doesn’t take into account your parenting style and the things your family feels are important. There are plenty of adult cartoon shows on television now, many with highly inappropriate topics.
The bottom line is, I want to know what my kids are watching, and if the TV is on my time in our home, I want to first approve of the show ahead of time, and second to watch it with my kids so that I’m aware of anything they might be seeing that needs intervention(干涉).
Talk about the show with your kids. As kids get older, we realize that we can’t shelter them from every single person/show/behavior that doesn’t fit exactly with our values. They’re going to hear a swear word from time to time—and might walk into the room while the characters in the romantic comedy we’re watching are kissing.
A.If it doesn’t feel good, turn it off. |
B.And be aware of cartoons! |
C.We can talk about what we see, though, using story-lines to teach lessons when possible. |
D.The standard for what our kids can watch might be difficult to set. |
E. But how do you choose which shows are appropriate for the younger set?
F. Watch TV with them.
G. Still, a little bit of television doesn’t hurt and can be fun.
Mary is digging in the ground for a photo, when along comes John. Seeing that there is no one in sight, John starts to scream. John’s angry mother rushes over and drives Mary away. Once his mum has gone, John helps himself to Mary’s potato.
We’ve all experienced similar annoying tricks when we were young—the brother who stole your ball and then got you into trouble by telling your parents you had hit him. But Mary and John are not humans. They’re African baboons(狒狒). ___
John’s scream and his mother’s attack on Mary could have been a matter of chance, but John was later seen playing the same tricks on others. ______
Studying behavior like this is complicated but scientists discovered apes(猿) clearly showed that they intended to cheat and knew when they themselves had been cheated. ______ An ape was annoying him, so he tricked her into going away by pretending he had seen something interesting. When she found nothing, she “walked back, hit me over the head with her hand and ignored me for the rest of the day.”
Another way to decide whether an animal’s behavior is deliberate is to look for actions that are not normal for that animal. A zoo worker describes how an ape dealt with an enemy. “He slowly stole up behind the other ape, walking on tiptoe. When he got close to his enemy, he pushed him violently in the back, then ran indoors.” Wild apes do not normally walk on tiptoe. _____ But looking at the many cases of deliberate trickery in apes, it is impossible to explain them all as simple copying.
It seems that trickery does play an important part in ape societies. ______ Studying the intelligence of our closest relative could be the way to understand the development of human intelligence.
A.In most cases the animal probably doesn’t know it is cheating. |
B.An amusing example of this comes from a psychologist working in Tanzania. |
C.And playing tricks is as much a part of monkey behavior as it is of human behavior. |
D.So the psychologists asked his colleagues if they had noticed this kind of trickery. |
E. The ability of animals to cheat may be a better measure of their intelligence than their use of tools
F. This use of a third individual to achieve a goal is only one of the many tricks commonly used by baboons.
G. Of course it’s possible that it could have learnt from humans that such behavior works, without understanding why.
Would you like to explore (开发) the oceans? Do you want to find life than we imagine there? For Jacques Cousteau, the answer was “yes”. His career was a life-long dream, and he is
(probable) the most famous ocean scientist in recent times.
Cousteau was born in France in 1910. Even a child, he loved water. Cousteau was bright,
he got bored with school and began to cause trouble. His parents sent him to a strict boarding school. There, Cousteau finally felt
(challenge). He studied hard and did well in all his courses. In 1933, he served as a general officer in the French Navy. He also began to explore the life under the water. He worked
a breathing machine to stay under water longer. It was finished in 1943.
In 1948, Cousteau became a captain, and he had new duties. Even so, he continued to explore the oceans. Two years later, he became the president of the French Oceanographic Campaigns. He also bought a ship (help) with his dives. But he
(need) a way to get money for his trips. To do that, he produced many films and published a number of books. His films include “The Silent World (1956)”, “World without Sun (1966)”. One of his books is “The Living Sea (1963)”.
In 1974, he founded the Cousteau Society, function was to further oceanic research and to encourage people to help protect the oceans and the life within them.
Cousteau won many honors for his work, (include) the Medal of Freedom and membership in the French Academy in 1989.
Most of you love watching movies. They can be funny, sad, imaginative, inspiring, and so much more! There are so many possibilities and so many great movies to watch!
The making of a movie usually begins with a script (剧本). The producer is the person who is responsible for coordinating(协调) aspects of the film like budget and scheduling. The producer plans out how the project will be carried out and he usually starts by hiring a director!
The director will usually identify themes or feelings that he or she wants the movie to convey to its audience and will then assemble(聚集) all the other people who will be needed, such as costume-designers, makeup artists, special effects crew, stuntmen, cameramen, and, of course, actors!
Next, shooting begins!Often a director will want to get several “takes” (versions) of a scene or moment and usually only a few minutes of the movie are finished in one day’s work.
So once filming is completed, the director must then work with editors to piece them all together, deciding which takes to use and adding in any special effects or touch-ups.
The entire process from acquiring the script to editing the scenes generally takes months or even years! Once it’s ready, the finished movie is then distributed to movie theatres.
A.Scenes are also usually not shot in order. |
B.The actual filming can be a slow process. |
C.The way that movies are made has changed a lot over time. |
D.It gets bought by a movie studio or a producer. |
E. The producer plays a very important role in making a movie.
F. In movies, the director’s job is to bring the script to life on camera.
G. People can watch and enjoy it in the theatre.
