It's time for school! But on May 14th, 170 students at Duncanville High School in Texas,
US, were told to go back home.
Why? Because they were wearing the wrong clothes to school.
Schools in the US don’t always ask students to wear uniforms. But they have dress codes (着装要求). For example, Duncanville High School tells students to wear belts, shirts withoutlogos (标识).
Schools’ most-hated (最讨厌的) clothes are different.
In 2011, the saggy ( 松垮 的 ) trousers law was passed in Florida. It stops students fromwearing trousers that show body parts.
Now, "the favorite new target ( 目 标 ) of the school dress code" is leggings( 紧 身 裤 ), reported the Associated Press. Some schools don't allow leggings. Other schools ask students towear a shirt or a skirt over leggings.
Some students complain (抱怨) that schools are going too far(做得太过分) .
But schools say dress codes help protect students’ safety and make sure they grow up with goodtaste (有良好的鉴赏力).
"We want to teach them that they must meet the expectations (期望) not only here in school, but also outside school," said Andre Smith. What happened to 170 students at Duncanville High School on May 14th?

Many animals hide to stay alive. They hide in many ways. Some animals hide in leaves; some animals hide in snow. Usually their colors or shapes help protect them. Some chameleons can change colors in five minutes.
Many animals try to look bigger than they are to stay alive. Some animals can make other animals think they are very big. If they look very big, animals that are looking for food will run away. Bears can walk on two legs. They look very, very scary. Some animals will run away from them.
Many animals try to stay around other animals. This helps them stay alive. Zebras stay close together so that they can help each other look out of danger. Seeing many stripes at once can also confuse animals that want to eat them. Some birds stay in a circle, each toward a different direction. In America, when people say “man’s best friend”,they don’t mean another person. Instead, they are talking about a lovely animal—a dog! These words show the friendship(友谊)between people and animals. Dogs and other pets can give joy to people’s lives. Some people think of their pets as their children. Some people even leave all their money to their pets when they die!
Animals can help people, too. Dogs can be taught to be the “eyes” for a blind person(盲人)or “ears” for a deaf(耳聋)person. Scientists have found that pets help people live longer! They make people happier, too. Because of that, they bring animals into hospitals for “visits”.

First think about how animals make your life richer. If you have a pet, take more time this week to play with it. Remember to give it delicious food.
