Mr. and Mrs. White had two sons and three daughters. One Sunday, Mrs. White said to her husband, "The children don't have any lessons today, and you are free too. There's a new funfair (游乐场) in the park. Let's all go there to play." Her husband said, "I want to finish some work today." "Oh, forget it. Go there and make our children happy. That's the most important work." Mrs. White said. So Mr. and Mrs. White took their children to the funfair. Mr. White was forty-five years old, but he enjoyed the funfair more than his children. He hurried from one thing to another, and ate lots of sweets. One of the children said to her mother, "Dad is just like a small child, isn't he, Mom?" Mrs. White didn't want to follow her husband around any more at that time and answered, "He is even worse than a small child, Mary, because he might spend more money than a small child." |

According to a new Ministry of Education (教育部) survey, student safety has become a big problem. Nearly 50 percent of students say they are worried about robbery on the way to and from school. Now in many big cities in China, some school has taught an unusual lesson: self– protection. Students like this lesson as there are no exams or boring classes. And they can learn how to save lives and know how to stop danger before it really happens.
Chen Haoyu, a teacher at Beijing No.25 Middle School and a self–protection expert, gives young students advice on how to deal with danger.
If you are robbed
Keep calm. If you cannot cry for help or run away, give the robber your money. Try to remember what the robber looks like and tell the police.
If you are in a traffic accident
If you are hurt by a car, take down the car number; if it is a bicycle, try to contact your parents before you let the rider go. This is because you don’t know how seriously you are hurt.
If it is raining hard and there is lightning
Don’t stay in high places and keep away from trees.
When there is a fire
Get away as fast as you can. Put wet things on your body and try and find an exit. Do not take the lift!

Air is a colorless, tasteless and invisible(看不见的)gas that is around us. An “empty” drinking glass and an “empty” room, in fact, are not really empty. Each is filled with air. When the glass is filled with water, the water pushes the air out of the glass.
Air, as a gas, has no definite shape, but because it is matter, it takes up space and it has weight. It is easy to prove that air is something that takes up space. Stuff a piece of dry cloth(布)into the bottom of a glass so that it will not fall out when the glass is turned upside down. Push the upside down glass, holding straight up and down, into a jar of water till the glass is completely covered. When the glass is taken out of the water, the cloth is still dry. The air inside the glass shows that it takes up space and keeps the water from coming in.Since air is matter, it has ________.
A.room , and weight as well | B.both room and shape |
C.either room or weight | D.neither shape nor weight |
The word “Stuff” means ______ in Chinese.
