Maybe you are an average student. This is not necessarily so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here’s how.
Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.
Make good use of your time in class. Listening carefully in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.
Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes; look at the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you’ll remember it longer.
Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be over worried. You will probably discover them after you have tried these.
A.There are other methods that might help you with your studying. |
B.Don’t forget to set aside enough time for relaxation. |
C.Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teacher says. |
D.No one can become a top student unless he or she works hard. |
E. You probably think you will never be a top student.
F. Make full use of class time to take notes of what the teacher says in class.
G. This will help you understand the next class.
A major source of teen stress is school exams, and test anxiety(焦虑)is not uncommon. When you recognize(意识到)your teen is under stress, how can parents help your teen stay calm before an exam?
Be involved(参与). Parents need to be involved in their teen’s work. What they look for is your presence—to talk,to cry,or simply to sit with them quietly. Communicate openly with your teen. Encourage your teen to express her worries and fears, but don’ t let them focus on those fears.
Help them get organized.Together, you and your teen can work out a schedule in which she can study for what she knows will be on the test. Provide a calm environment. Help your teen set up a quiet place to study and protect his privacy (隐私).Give them a nutritious(营养的) diet. It is important for your teen to eat a healthy, balanced diet during exam times to focus and do her best.
If this happens, encourage your teen to eat light meals or sandwiches. A healthy diet, rather than junk food,is best for reducing stress.
Persuade your teenager to get some sleep and/or do something active when she needs a real break from studying.Making time for relaxation, fun, and exercise are all important in reducing stress. Help your teen balance her time so that she will feel comfortable taking time out from studying to spend time with friends or rest.
Show a positive attitude.Your panic, anxiety and blame contribute to (促成,有助于)your teen’s pressure. Make your teen feel accepted and valued for her efforts. Most importantly, reassure (安慰) your teen that things will be all right, no matter what the results are.
A.A parent’s attitude will influence(影响) their teen’s emotions(情感). |
B.Exam stress can make some teens lose their appetite (食欲). |
C.They will only make the situation worse. |
D.Encourage your teen to relax. |
E.The best thing is simply to listen.
F.Help your teen think about what she has to study and plan accordingly.
G.Your teen may also make negative(负面的)comments about themselves.

Tips for a happier workplace
You don’t have to be friends with your co-workers, but you do need to be friendly. Read on for fresh ways to make your office a kinder, gentler place.
◆Give a happy “Hello!” in the morning.
Do you walk into the office, eyes down, and immediately start work? If so, you are likely to find that co-workers ignore you or avoid you. It’s really amazing how fast this small gesture can change unfriendly workplace relations.
◆Learn the art of small talk.
Ask your co-workers about their interests— their favorite music, movies, and books, as well as their hobbies. Once you know what catches their imagination, pick up stories from newspapers or magazines to help start conversations.
◆ Ask what they think.
People love to be asked for their opinion, so go out of your way to ask ,“What do you think of this report?” or “How do you think I should deal with this situation?”
◆Avoid gossip. So return the favor. When a co-worker walks towards you bearing a piece of gossip, respond with, “Really?” and then change the subject or get back to work. If you don’t respond, the gossiper will move on.
◆
To win friends at work, start with good office etiquette (礼节).There’s nothing more frustrating to busy co-workers than to have their emails and phone messages ignored. Your silence doesn’t just make their jobs harder, it also conveys an unpleasant message: You are unimportant to me.
A.Stop complaining. |
B.Return calls and emails immediately. |
C.Then give the advice giver a silent thank-you. |
D.Always work as hard as anyone working for you. |
E. You don’t want anyone talking about you behind your back, right?
F. Showing an interest in them will make them feel comfortable around you.
G. Get into the habit of greeting your co-workers with a smile as you arrive in the morning.

Question: I found a new job in the nearby town last week. But my six-year-old son doesn’t want to leave, because he has established a good friendship with our neighbor’s children. I am really puzzled about how to explain our moving plan to him. And there is only three weeks left. Will you please tell me some good advice?
Answer: Congratulations on your new position! It frequently causes them to feel unsafe. But don’t worry. There are many things you can do to make the moving experience less frightening for your children.
● Involve them from the very beginning.
Tell your children as soon as you know you’re moving. Explain why you’re moving in terms they can understand. This will remove a lot of the fear and confusion they may be feeling. Be sure to answer their questions as fully as you can.
●
If you approach the coming move as an exciting adventure for the entire family, it will help to calm your children’s fears. If possible, show them the new house and let them spend some time exploring it. Help them imagine where their furniture and toys will go. Show them the yard and help them imagine all the fun they will have there. Talk about all the fun things the family will do there.
● Let them help.
If you give your children an active role in the move, they are much more likely to accept it and even grow excited about it. Let them pack some of their own things. If there are old toys you don’t plan to take, let the kids help decide which of them should be taken or given away.
A.What to do on moving day. |
B.Make the move an adventure. |
C.Don’t tell them at the last minute. |
D.Moving can upset children of any age. |
E. This will help them feel a part of the move.
F. My wife and I are considering moving there next month.
G. If you’re driving to your new home, make the trip exciting!
