On a hot July afternoon, my mother and I were walking back home from a pizza store. We had bought many things. I was feeling really tired as I was carrying our shopping bag. I decided to throw something away. I was walking towards a dustbin(垃圾箱) when I noticed a poor man walking out of the restaurant in front of us. He walked to the nearby dustbin and started looking through it.
I suddenly felt very sorry because I was going to throw away a new drink just because it was too heavy. I walked up to him and gave the drink and some bread to him, which surprised him. The man looked at me in surprise and took what I gave him. A big smile appeared on his face. I felt I couldn`t be happier with myself. But then he said.”Wow, this is my son’s lucky day!”
With that, he thanked me happily and started off on his bike. I even heard him singing as he rode away. I got a warm feeling inside. I now understand what it means by the saying ”Giving in getting.”
Though it was only a little action, I got and learned more in those two minutes than I did in the rest of the month. Everyone in the world needs help. Everyone can give help and everyone can be helped.

If you go to visit London, you’ll see a lot of buses and cars on the road. You’ll also see many bikes because more people travel by bike. Why? There are many reasons. First, it is very cheap to buy a bike, and it is quick, too. You often need to wait for a bus for half an hour. When the bus comes, there are so many other buses and cars on the roads, so the bus moves very slowly.
I travel to work by bus for about four years. I often arrive at work late and feel tired. Then one day, a friend of mine says, “I go to work by bike. Why don’t we travel together?” “Because my bike is old, and there are so many buses and cars on the roads. I’ll feel frightened.” I answer. “Don’t be afraid, if you follow me and we ride slowly, you’ll be fine.” he says.
Later, I buy a new bike. We go slowly, but we arrive at work quickly. I spend 40 minutes going by bus, but only half an hour by bike! Now I love riding a bike. And I feel healthy. Many people think my idea is good and maybe you’ll see more bikes on the road in the future. I travel to work by bus for ________.

Do teenagers in small villages do chores at home? How about the teenagers in big cities? Here is a survey. We asked 4,000 teenagers in China several questions. Half of them come from big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The others are from small villages. We made a diagram of the result of our survey. Let’s have a look at it. We found out that teenagers from small villages do more chores than those from big cities. Maybe it is because they live a harder life. Our advice to parents in big cities is that parents should give their children some chores to do. Doing chores teaches teenagers to take care of themselves.

For many people the subject of hiccups (嗝) is a joke, but for Harry Mendes, a fifteen-year-old schoolboy from Birmingham, it was something quite different.
His hiccups began one Sunday lunch time and continued day and night for two weeks. After the first week, Harry's parents took him to hospital, but it took another week for the doctors to cure his attack.
Harry, who is now back at school, described what happened to him.
“When I began to hiccup, I drank a glass of water but that didn't do any good. That evening I had hiccups every four seconds. We tried everything to stop them. I held my breath and drank cold drinks. My father even tried to give me a shock but that didn't work either.”
After a week of sleepless nights, he went to hospital. The doctors took an X-ray of his chest but they couldn't find anything wrong.
“They gave me some medicine and my hiccups slowed down, but it was another week before the medicine worked completely and my hiccups stopped.”
Harry was very lucky. The world record holder is the American farmer Charles Osborne, who hiccupped for sixty-eight years. He stopped in 1990 at last, but nobody knows why.Harry's hiccups lasted ____.

Early to bed, early to rise(起), makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.
This is an old English saying. Have you heard it before? It means that we must go to bed early in the evening and get up early in the morning. If we do, we shall be healthy. We shall also be rich (wealthy) and clever (wise).
Is this true? Perhaps it is. The body must have enough sleep. Children need ten hours’ sleep every night. If you do not go to bed early, you cannot have enough sleep. Then you cannot think properly(适当地)and you cannot do your work properly. You will not be wise and you may not become wealthy!
Some people go to bed late at night and get up late in the morning. This is not good for them. We must sleep at night when it is dark. The dark helps us to sleep properly, When the daylight comes, we must get up. This is the time for exercise. Exercise means doing things with the body. Walking, running, jumping, swimming, and playing games are all exercise. If the body is not used, it becomes weak. Exercise keeps it strong. Exercise helps the blood(血液) to move around inside the body. This is very important. The brains(大脑)in our heads also need blood. We think with our brains. If we keep our bodies healthy, and take exercise, we can think better.
Our bodies also need air to breathe. Without air we die. We must have a lot of clean, fresh air to breathe if we want to be healthy. We will be healthy if we______.
A.work at night | B.eat well |
