One night,a little before nine o’clock,Dr Johnson was answering a telephone call. He was asked to go and operate on a very sick boy at once.The boy was in a small hospital in Glens Falls,sixty miles from Dr Johnson’s city--Albany.The boy had himself in a traffic accident. His life was in danger,but his family was poor that they couldn’t the doctor anything, After hearing this ,Dr Johnson started to head to the hospital at once.He thought that he could get to the hospital before 12 o’clock . A few minutes later,the doctor’s car stop for a red light at a crossing. Suddenly a man in an old black coat opened the door of the car and got in.
“Drive on,”he said,”I’ve a gun.”
“I’m a doctor,said Johnson.” “I’m on my way to a hospital to operate on a very sick…”
“Don’t ,”said the man in the old black coat.”Just drive.”
A mile out of the town he ordered the doctor to stop and get out. Then the man drove on The road.The doctor stood for a moment in the snow.Half an hour later Dr Johnson found a telephone and called a taxi.At the he learnt that that the next train to Glens Falls would not leave 12 o’clock.
It was about o’clock in the morning when the doctor arrived at the hospital in Glens Falls. “The boy just an hour ago !” said the nurse. “I’ve my best. It took me about five hours to come here from my home, because I meet a….” Suddenly he saw the man in the old black coat, his head in his hands.”Mr Shute,” said the nurse to the man, “This is Dr Johnson. He has come all the way from Albany to try to your boy.”

People enjoy taking trips. But what are the reasons they leave home? One reason is for education. People travel because they want to learn more about other people and other places. They are curious about other cultures. When people are tourists, they get a quick look at different ways of living. Even a short look at another kind of lifestyle is an important lesson. On a trip, a person can learn directly by visiting museums and historic spots. What does a tourist learn who sees the art museums, visits the historical palaces and other scenic spots in Paris and shops along the River Seine? He gets a vivid picture, a real life of one of the French people. He learns about their attitudes（态度）, how they feel about business, beauty and history.
What about the tourist who goes to Hong Kong? Does he get the same information that he could get from a book? He might read that Hong Kong is crowded, that there is less than 200 square meters of space for each person. But seeing and feeling the lack of space will impress him much more. He might read that there are nearly 200 vehicles for every kilometer of roadway. But the sight of so many vehicles parked along the roadside would be a much more vivid lesson. The tourist to Hong Kong will never forget the contrasts(对比，对照): the straight vertical lines of tall modern buildings and the moving lines of boats that people live in.

How is it going? Are you busy with your study these days?
I've been back at school nearly four weeks. I am very glad to tell you that great have taken place in our school this term. First of all, we are aked to "clean our plates" when having our meals and say to waste. Some of us used to order more than what we could eat. That was a big waste of food and money. Now we need to the food we order.
We should also stop wasting in some other ways. For example, we should turn off the lights when we the classroom. And our school has opened up some for us to learn how to grow vegetables. Each class is given a small garden and our class has to grow some tomatoes and beans in our spare time. I think it'll be very interesting. Maybe I'II be able to you some beans we've grown next time.
What's more, we have only two classes in the afternoon we have more time for after-school activities. I am one of the traffic safety volunteers in our school. After school, we take turns asking people in the streets near our school to the traffic rules.
